If you were going to with one camera, either the Sony Z5 or Sony Z7, which would it be and why?

Both cameras are very similar, with the size and weight edge going to the Z5.

And the customability, because of removable lens, goes to the Z7.

I don't know if I would rather have a fixed lens or a removable one. As for a removable one you have to make sure that you set your backfocus, or auto focus (I usually always go manual) will be off and blury.

Hi,

I made this decision and got the Z7. Very good camera, and there are no backfocus settings ont he z7 (well, I havnt found them if there is)

I would get the z7, I chipped the lens on mine afew weeks ago, and the insurance company are just sending me a new lens. If i had got the z5, i would have to send it away for two weeks to repair it. Also the z7 comes with the compact flash recorder.

Its a great camera, if you ca afford it, get the z7.

Z7 has a more "pro" lens, very similar to the EX1.
Z5 has a lens very similar to the XH-A1.

If you will never buy another lens, the buy the Z5. (20x vs 12x isn't much of a question).

If you think you'll use another lens, then buy the Z7. You can use any of the lenses from the JVC cameras, or buy an adapter for a few hundred $ & use Nikon SLR lenses right on the Z7.

Answer that question & you'll know which camera to buy.

I'm just wondering how the Z5U G lens compares to the Z7U fixed lens. I mean your getting excellent low light shooting with the Z5 similar to the PD170. I would assume it seems like the 5u more like the better buy to me. I shot with the Z7U, really nice camera but does have a stiff focus & zoom ring and it is a bulker camera, not as a efficient for handheld.

Please I would love feedback on the Sony Z5U please. my business partner is really considering this camera.

Just picked up the Z5 for reasons listed above (20X optical, 4.1-82mm) F/ 1.6 G-Lens. Being that this is a variable prime lens it can be manufactured to be sharper than a zoom lens.

The zoom ratio has already landed the camera work.

I also think it's laid out in a pretty ergonomic manner. Love the LCD too.

Note that the optional compact flash recorder for the Z5U is almost $900. It's the same one that ships with the Z7U and the S270U.
