Sony Z1: Can shoot in CF24 at 1/48th?

Our show rented a Sony Z1 to play with for a few days, but I wasn't able to get any shutter speed slower than 1/60th when in 60i CF24 (preset 4) mode. I switched the camera to 50i and shot some tests that way too. Is it possible to dial the camera menus in to shoot at 1/48th shutter speed in CF24 mode?

I don't think it is. Then again I could be wrong.

EDITED TO ADD:

Just checked sony's site, and it says:

Shutter speed
1/4 to 1/10000 sec (50i/60i)

So seems like you should be able to go below 1/60th in 60i no problem.
I don't remember ever doing it myself in CF24 though.

But you can turn it off, and go slower than 60. in that case image will be progresive too. I dont know why they did it this way.

CF24 is derived from 60 interlaced fields. It needs all 60 time samples to do it's selective fields method, so you can't have a shutter greater than 1/60th of a second.

When the FX1 does shutters greater-than 1/60 s, it can only sample a single field to construct the image. Hence shutters of 1/30 (1/25), 1/15, 1/4 etc., have half the resolution of 60i acquisition, similar to the CF modes... but the frame rate is lower. By definition, if your shutter is 1/4 s, the most you could acheive is 4 frames per second, unless the shutter was actually a running integrator.

Actually, whether you have the CF modes on or off the Z1U is strictly interlaced when shooting HDV. The only way to shoot progressive on this camera is by shooting SD...

Not to be picky or anything, but the CF modes do actually produce progressive images. Now it is true that these progressive images are encoded into an interlaced signal, but they are progressive images nontheless.
