FS7: Sony XQD G cards discontinued, what's next?

My bundled reader is model XDA-SB1A and it's USB 3. It has a blue insert (meaning it is USB 3) and if I put it in a USB 2 computer port, it takes over 8 minutes to download 15GB vs 3 minutes if I plug it into a USB 3 port.

Bizarre, I'll recheck everything. The iMac only has USB3 ports so I couldn't have inadvertently plugged the reader into a USB2 port.

Sometimes the USB bus slows to a crawl and you need to eject and reconnect the adapter or reboot the system.

Plug it in and run Blackmagic Disk Speed Test. £10 says it's USB3:-)

If you plug any USB 2.0 device into a USB 3.0 port on your computer the bus speed of the port defaults to 2.0 until you reboot.

The readers that came with my G series 128 GB cards are USB2. I bought the USB3 reader and it's much much faster to import as you'd expect.

B....t. Read the leaflet in the card/reader box; there even is a special utility from Sony to download and run in order to make your USB 3.0 ports faster. And super-fast those readers are.

PS. Search Microsoft for KB 2581464 hotfix; if you're on Mac you've bad luck

That might just explain it. I did not know that's how USB fallback worked and I do have an old USB2 drive that I sometimes plug into my iMac and it could've coincided with me doing a back to back test of the readers shortly after setting the new iMac up.

I use the E80 reader because it has a blue LED and as everyone knows you can't have enough equipment in your studio with blue LEDs.
