I have a new pc, a quad core, Windows 7 64 bit, 4 GB ram and vegas pro 9 64 bit crashes every bloody time I open it. 2 mins into my video editing it crashes.

Any ideas? A real pain in the arse.

Get more Ram !!!!! + dont know your version, but I saw significant improvement when upgrading to 9 c from 9 b - I run 12 GB on i7 win 7 64 - I wouldnt go any lower than 6 GB Ram

It's not the RAM that's causing it, that's for sure. What version do you have? (9.0a, b or c?) Be sure to have the latest update (9.0c) - depending on your hardware, some of it may be causing this crash for there were some known issues with some motherboard chips and what not. Updates with fixes for the latest versions (Pro 8 & 9) are available here:

Yeh definately won't be the RAm, I have 4GB's of it unused. (New Pc.)

I will check what version I have soon as I get home.

Cheers for your help, much appreciated!

Sweet Cheers. Well i have 4gb of ram thats plenty.

You indicated that your computer is new. Check that you have the most current drivers for everything: graphics cards, etc.

Also - check the video tag under Tools - preferences. There you can set the amount of ram for vegas to access. Mine was default 2 gig, even though I have 12. I bumped the number up to 8 which really helped. Also check that you get the right project settings (click on the "match media" if in doubt) + set the preview window to draft, auto.

Perhaps not depending on what you're doing. If you said you had 12gb I'd say that's probably plenty, but I exceed 4gb of RAM on nearly every render I do of 1080p.

But I'm only editing standard definition video, should be fine right?

How do I access the tools-preference video thing? Are you talking about in Vegas as I see nothing under tools which you mention?

:dankk2:

Edit-Ah found it, I think, is it the Dynamic Ram preview max (MB) or am I way off? Have upped it to 1 GB instead of 350mb and it still crashes.

Options - preference - video - sorry, my bad :embarasse

Try this:

Find vegas in the startup menu (Start>programs, etc...), now don't launch it...instead right click on it and select "Run As Administrator"....

Yeh have tried that before STILL crashes. Seems to be doing it when I drag a film effect onto the timeline. VEGAS SUCKS!!!!! Just kidding, but I REALLY wish it would stop crashing.

Woah, this is too complex for me. What did that Blink guy do that fixed his problem? Will this help with mine?
It’s not that difficult, just follow the instruction on the 3rd post. I was so desperate I was willing to try anything by the time I stumbled across this thread.

Don’t bet the farm on this but I believe what it does is changes how the physical memory is allocated. Towards the bottom of the thread David F Knight explains it better then I can.

I can’t guarantee it will fix your problem but it’s worth a shot. All I know is Vegas 9 Platinum has not crashed once during rendering since I did this.
