Sony U-series and Odyssey 7Q+ ?

In order to simplify and reduce cost, rather than get a rig and brick battery, I am wondering how well it would work to just use the FS700R on a tripod with it's own L series batteries (I already have), and power the 7Q+ with Sony U-series batteries.
All I would need then is an arm to mount it and monitor battery plate and avoid a lot of extra fuss and $$.

Is this a realistic idea?
Here's the plate:

And here is a U60 battery

If so, which capacity battery would be recommended for the 7Q+, U60, U90? My concerns would be run time and weight.

Also, what would be a good way to attach the 7Q+ if I go this route?

A big thank you in advance for any help :)

Why not just use an L series battery plate and keep all your batteries the same family? I do this and attach the 7Q+ with a Noga arm screwed into the top handle.

I used L's to power my Odyssey for a while, but recently switched to V-Locks and much prefer the setup over juggling the smaller batteries. (You would easily need 4-6 batteries to get through an all day shoot with the L970s and the V-locks only take 2 with room to spare.)

Well that was my initial thought and desire (to keep them all the same) until I read that the 970 batteries weren't sufficient and required two. I expect that means more weight and possibly one U battery is better than two L batteries?

However if you are happy using the 970 batteries than maybe I'll do that. It would be easier to just deal with one type battery :)

Rdouthit, I really like your setup with Vmount. I'm going to look up those pieces and save the list that way I can upgrade to that type setup if the L batteries prove too troublesome.

Thank you both!

I use exactly that plate, fixed on the back of Odyssey 7Q+ and fix that with a Manfrotto 492 and that with a nanoclamp to tripod. You could instead use the version for hot shoe on the camera.
I use SWIT and Sony, 60 and 90 equivalent.

L-series batteries work fine on the Odyssey7Q+, but understand that these batteries are 7.2v. The minimum voltage for the Odyssey7Q+ is 6.5v, so the battery will no longer power the Odyssey even when there is juice left in the cell. A U-series battery (or a V-lock for that matter) is a 14.4v battery, so it will use up effectively all of its available juice before the minimum voltage on the Odyssey is reached. This means that identical wattage L-series and U-series batteries will not power an Odyssey7Q+ for the same amount of time. The higher voltage battery will last longer, and since the lower voltage one is relatively close to the cutoff point of the Odyssey the difference in run time can be significant. The older the batteries get the greater the difference as over time the cels will fail to reach maximum voltage.

This is the main reason I was looking at the U series instead of the L series.
Can anyone give an estimated 7Q operation time for a pair of 970s versus a single 60 or 90?
