Sony RM-30BP - New Wired Remote for FS7 and Other Cams

Old school Sony marketing still lives! They've been doing this for decades, but I think that buyers have grown weary of overpriced hardware to do the same functions that should be done on their phone, as Morgan alludes to, or with a cheap Bluetooth remote like the one that came with my Zhiyun Crane. Canon does the same thing but not nearly as badly as Sony.

Hmm..having worked with Gopro app..with questionable reliability, not interested in my phone as a substitute for what they developed. but..c'mon...that effin price is ridiculous in that camera class. It's like they somehow witnessed the success of heavily discounted YAGH (AArgg) and thought.."Yeah..let's do it like that"

Agreed, it can be annoying. I have had to not use my Go Pros once and my Osmo twice on client shoots because of non-functioning Wi-Fi/Bluetooth. But I'll take that over a blatant ripoff like this Sony piece of gear. Like everything else in this business, depends on how you use and how often you need the functions.

First off, that is an absolutely ridiculous price for a remote. Absolute highway robbery, even for this industry.

I use mulitple GoPro's ALOT and on a regular basis. For whatever reason, the earlier iterations of the GoPro app were completely unreliable. I had workarounds for when the app didn't work but it was still a major PITA. I don't know what they did, but GoPro significantly improved the app and it's reliability. Keep in mind that the GoPro App is a lot more complicated than a simple hand remote. A hand remote doesen't have to manage video preview. A wired solution will almost always be more reliable than wireless. Having said that, a well implemented wireless solution CAN be very reliable as well. Also, keep in mind that wired solutions can have down sides. People trip over wires and can damage the camera in the process. Wires break or can malfunction. There are distance limitations etc... No solution is perfect

Bottom line. I think most can agree that $1000 for a hand remote is an absolutely EGREGIOUS amount of money to charge. I don't even own either Camera that this remote applies to and I still feel insulted.

I guess the multi camera control elevates this beyond most wired controllers. but I bet distance issues are less with this than wifi. Maybe the app i simproved..but I was using latest app with series 3 black at fairly short distances..albeit not exactly line of sight..and it was a nightmare. Losing preview..cameras overheating seeming due to wifi burden...cameras sometimes stopping when app was closed. Shut off wi-fi and ran around starting and stopping manually and all was good.
