FS7: Sony PXW-FS5 very quick test with Ronin M

Any thoughts on using any other lenses with the Ronin-M? Or would you be stuck with using a lens as small/lightweight as that one to balance on the ronin-m?

Thanks!

Can anyone still get in?
The password Sony PXW-FS5_Italy does not work anymore!

Sorry. It's working!

Filippo Chiesa... Amazing. As always!

It still works, you have to enter the password without the . at the end. :) Looks great Filippo, excellent work!

Very nice video Filippo! And I agree with Nate, this is Sony's marketing video - not some girl in a field of purple flowers with horrible color cast.

Cheers,

Looks very nice! It seems like this will really be a mini FS7 and a good B camera for it. Good for everybody. I will probably pick one up down the road as a second camera to my FS7. It's just too cheap to ignore.

But I hate to say the obvious here. This was all shot during an overcast day. Most cameras will look good under these conditions. But when high lights and reflections cripped in the shot it looked like any other sub $40K camera. Just less than pleasing. I know it's a $5K camera and it's all fine. The FS7 is the same and so is the F5 or F55. So the FS5 is still a true mini FS7. What is crazy is getting this quality from such a small and light camera.

same thoughts here. In Den Lennie's "free spirit" video the camera shines in subdued light but has weak points when the contrast is high esp shadows in car. I am still thinking about a B-cam to my FS7 but I don't see a FS5. Just too expensive compared to a A7SII

Havent seen anyone post about this in a while. Video is up and not password protected.

Awesome look for quick grading. I was interested to see how this would fair on the ronin M, wish you also got to try out a heavier lense. Question though, why did you choose to use log instead of 3?

Thanks again for the video

I am floored by the quality of this footage. Really impressed and now I'm thinking this may be the best option for me. Thanks for posting!

Looks great. I just received one and your footage has inspired me. Thanks so much. Questions about the Ronin: Have you used it rigged with wireless and a single channel follow focus? Would that be too bulky for its cage? Also, did you have a chance to compare the image quality of 1080p 10 bit vs 4k 8 bit when downscaled to 1080p?

Would love to know what sort of settings you tweaked in the grade. I've not played with the S-log settings so much on mine yet due to my lack of experience in post so I can't say I've managed to get footage looking as clean as this yet. I'm getting a lot more noise out of mine than I think is acceptable. I really hope it's user error as opposed to the camera - I'm a little nervous about a sensor who's native ISO is 3,200

How did you rig the monitor to your Ronin-M?

I'm running the exact same setup, loving it. But you can't get the internal LUT to any external display besides the included monitor.

I'm trying to figure out a way to rig the monitor to the handlebars of Ronin-M. Silly right angle 1/4"-20s.

I use Manfrotto Nano Clamp (item #386B). For tube from 13mm to 35mm. It's small, it perfectly fits in Ronin carrying case and it's very easy and fast to mount on the handlebars. I definetely recommend it.NanoClamp.jpg

Nice! I didn't fiddle with the monitor enough until I saw your example but now that I realize you can twist it in such a way that the 1/4-20" points straight down it's not that complicated.

I'll try that myself this week. Thanks!
