Hi All:
I don't normally shoot the PMW300 cameras but I have shot with the FS700 and F55 recently so I am somwhat familiar with the menus and controls on the newer Sony cameras. Did a shoot today, a live event with the PMW300. I was at full zoom length shooting a speaker about 50-60' away from me. I made sure that the camera was in manual focus mode, the switch on the front of the lens was on manual focus and "manual" was displayed on the screen displays. So how come after I would use magnify focus and my Small HD DP6, the subject would be in sharp focus, I would look away to make an adjustment on the Pix recorder we were using to record computer output, I would look back at my shot, which had not been touched and the subject was very much out of focus? I shot about 8 hours today (live event) and this happened two or three times. I never saw the shot go out of focus but it ended up out of focus with no input, while in manual focus mode. Is my camera possessed?
Is there some sort of manual override to auto focus besides the one touch autofocus button on the lens? I am a hired gun, I did not set the camera up, I literally showed up and was shooting ten minutes later so I did not have much of a chance to go through the finer points of all of the menus. Iris was definitely manual and responded manually but this focus thing has me puzzled. I am going back for day two tomorrow on the shoot and I really would like to know why my camera keeps going into temp auto focus by itself, even though I was definitely not touching the one shot auto focus button on the lens? Help me out Somy peeps, I normally shoot Canon C100/300, Amira or Reds and this whole attached lens, auto focus but in manual but sort of auto focus has me stumped.
Advice welcome.
