F55: Sony PMW-F5/F55 Compressed Raw with new AXS-R7 4K Raw recorder

This is a pretty exciting announcement. Makes a Sony F5 look like a solid upgrade now with 4K internal and Compressed RAW. I would love to see something like this in the FS7, even if it was an higher paid upgrade, like $1000+ for the firmware. I would pay it. Extend the life of the camera for a couple more years!

What's the actual difference between "true 24 fps" and 23.98 fps that we get now? Sorry for the newbie question. Is it better motion?
 
The F5(5) don't offer uncompressed raw recording, only 3:1 compression. So assume that's a typo.
 
Yeah very strange, it's very unclear what the benefit of the new raw format is, seems to be pretty similar to the old raw format...

30% less data certainly makes a difference, but it seems a strange choice, especially since they already have a 6:1 compression on the F65.

Yes, you're right I messed that up in the hurry to get the news out. I'll amend shortly. The statement about the new compression is comparing it to the RAW from the F55 in its current form, which is already compressed. The way I understand this, the new AXS-R7 will have the option to record in both - the previous comrpession and the higher new LT comrpession, which should be pretty much around what the XAVC class 480 in terms of size. This is what Sony told me.
 
Wasn't there already an RAW 3.6:1 and a 6:1 LT compression option? So the new one is just 30% more compressed and what else is the difference?? Seems pretty unclear why anyone would throw out their old recorder and buy a new one just for a bit more compression...
 
yeah, the new R7 will do full sensor 4K at 120fps so no pixel binning or need for 2K OLPF... should be sweet. Guess they also decided to add some compression options as well.

I just wonder what the price will be. :o

Yes Sir, Full sensor 4K/120fps Raw is with new AXS-R7 recorder, wont be on the R5.
