The Sony PMW-EX1 is an absolutely fabulous camera. It has three full raster 1/2" sensors for the best resolution you can get in an HD format. It's right up to the Nyquist limits or resolution. This is perfect for electronic news gathering, weddings, live events and indie movie productions. In fact this model is so good it has been used in many mainstream Hollywood feature films. For instance 90% of Michael Jackson's "This is It" was shot on an EX1. The 1/2" sensor gives you more depth of field control than the typical 1/3" sensor.

The camera has had the Sony firmware so that Express card adapters (such as MxR) can be used. This allows you to use the much cheaper SDHC cards as media. (I recommend Sandisk or Transend class 10 cards.)

If you want to make a movie you won't be limited by this camera. Here is a partial list of movies and TV shows that used the EX1 or EX3 (the EX3 is the same camera, but with a removeable lens) to shoot part of their production.
