Sony PMW-200 Shutter speed question

Hi All.

I just picked up a PMW-200 and have a question about shutter speed.

I'm shooting at 1080p 50Mbs @ 23.97 fps - what should the shutter speed be?

From my DSLR experience, it should around 50 or twice the frame rate. Out of the box it was set at 100 however,
so I thought I'd check to see if I'm missing something.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Peter

You are correct that a shutter speed equal to twice the frame rate is what most people would recommend. But for 24P, anything between 1/48 - 1/80 will look good -- but don't go faster than that. The default setting of 1/100 is pushing the limits of what will look good. Just proves that the engineers who design the cameras are not cameramen. :-)

Thanks Doug. It looks good at 50 - I figure I'll go to 60 if I get any flicker from fluorescents. Thanks for the link. I'm putting in an order tonight! Though I'm familiar with video cameras, these new ones have so many options, settings, profiles it can be very confusing. Cheers!
