Hello

i wonder how many of u guys have, or had a chance to work with Sony PL lenses version II? 6 lens set in europe is 8k EUR + tax, its a hell of a deal, u just cant find anything cheaper .....
but is it good? or is it good?
other brands sell 1 lens or even higher for as much as Sony asks for the set... so i wonder how good they are in reality? does sealed good , or they suck the dust inside like a vacuum cleaner? how is the gear, does it work ok with your FF system? But most important what is the optic quality? Breathing?
is it possible to screw a protective filter or any other on it? or mate box with filters is a must to have?

plz share your experience! maybe some real footage you have available to share?

Regards

By all reports, the build quality and optics in the Sony CineAlta prime lenses are exceptional. The only drawback that I've seen (and the reason I don't own a set) is the weight; these are heavy lenses.

Someone posted this same question on the Red Facebook group. The general consensus by all (about 5 people) who have used these lenses is they are excellent lenses, but large in size.

Everything I have seen so far that was shot on the CineAlta lenses has been really beautiful.

Now they ARE expensive lenses...but from what I've seen they really do deliver what to my eye is that "expensive lens look" if you know what I mean. That image quality that just instantly says NO - this was NOT shot on Vintage Nikkor primes, Canon L glass, or Rokinon-Sigma-Tokina type stuff.

I have not had a chance to shoot them myself in order to give a more specific detailing of what I'm describing, but I sure as hell hope to as soon as is reasonably possible.

Anatusa du you have a link for them?
I'm thinking of buying too. As far as I know it's like the other guys in the thread says they are great lenses - only drawback is they are heavy - plus they are not in high demand - so probably wont rent out very well because nobody really ask for them - they are no Cooke or ultra prime. But that dosen't make them bad lenses. As said I heard they deliver top notch quality so if it's for yourself I think it's a great buy..

I have worked with these lenses with an F55, they give beautiful images. But mirroring what's already been said, they're pretty heavy.

right now they coast less then some canon L lenses, what makes it really tempting!

I really want a set of these. Perfect 'owner/operator' set of glass that will last forever.

But I also need a car. And I'm moving house. And I already have nice lenses.

*looks around house for things to sell*

Would those be Ok to use on an FS7 with a PL>E adapter or too heavy? Anyone make that adapter with back focus adjustment? It is a great price for cine glass.

I have a set of these, and I think they are AMAZING value for the dollar. Sharp, clean, and neutral. Great lenses for an owner operator. But as many have said the only real drawback to them is that they are large, and heavy. Had a ronin operator forget his set of lenses on a test day, and the Sony PL were a bit too heavy for the gimbal.

Rob, do you have any footage of the lenses? I was interested in this set but decided to go with the Xeens. The weight was a concern for me and the upfront cost of all the lenses at once. I do a lot of my shooting on my own, so adding weight to my rig for a slight image bump really isn't in my best interest. Never really tried them out though, so can't say if the weight would have affected me.

I really wish I could afford the whole set now because this price might never come back around. For the price per lens, which is about $2000, you won't find anything comparable to be honest. I would say these lenses are on par with the Schneider Xenar III and Ultra Primes for image, control, and color. A step up from the mid-$5000/lens offerings in lenses like the Xenons, CN-E, and CP.2's.

I wonder why the are so cheap at b&h and cvp. Regular price at marcotec Germany who is one of the dealers with low prices is almost 18k net
