Sony PCM-D50 corrosion issues

Another one of my Sony PCM-D50 units has gone on the blink.
Fairly sure the issue is corrosion inside. If I jiggle the mic/input switch I get a quick blink from the limiters led and levels and then nothing sound wise (actually can blow hard into the mics and do get something).
Probably needs to be cleaned by a pro, but so far here in Paris, France the cost Sony is asking is more than picking up a used unit. If someone can recommend an inexpensive service that would be welcome, but.....has anyone ever opened up one of these units and attempted to do the cleaning themselves?

Since no one has answered I would offer this. Try some Deoxit Dn5 non flammable contact cleaner on you switches and connector in and outs. At this point I don't think it would make things worse. Dioxit says it dissolves corrosion. I've only used it for mic inputs that get static when jiggled and it solved the issue.

Mico, did you actually open up your unit, or just apply it to the switches and connectors from the outside of the unit ?

I have a Sony PCM 10 that had similar issues (sony issue with oxidation?). I did not open mine. I just used a Qtip with Deoxit (I took some cotton off) for any inputs and just lightly sprayed the switches and dials. It definitely got rid of the problem. Dioxit doesn't affect the plastic and like I said you have nothing to lose because it sounds like your recorder is not useable.

Thanks Mico, I'll give it a shot. If it doesnt work I might even open it later. Nothing to lose as you say.
