Sony or Panasonic??

Hi guys,
so I'm planning on buying tapes for my new dvx100a, you say 'oh boy here we go again' however my question is: I have sony pc115 which I have been using as a deck with sony premium tapes. Now, I saw that panasonic recommends to use Panny MQ tapes,
So I buy sony tapes if I'm planning on using pc115 as a deck or should I get MQ? If I want to buy sony deck in the future will there be a problem if I will be using panny tapes on the sony deck as well??

Please help me to make the decision before I screw something up.

Re: Sony or Panasonic??

General opinion on this board is to stick to one tape source (because of the different types of lube used on different tape brands).
If you want to use Sony premiums it should be ok as well with the DVX.
I am using MQ tapes only on the DVX and had never a problem with them. On my DCR-PC 120 I also used Sony tapes but switched to MQs now (didn't want to carry two types of tape all the time). You might consider this as well, but give the PC 115 a thorough head/roller/capstan cleaning before you switch (see other posts concerning tape switching issues).

Re: Sony or Panasonic??

If you decide to stick with the Panasonic tapes, consider the PQ's (professional quality). While the MQ's have alleged higher QC standards, I have talked with two tape vendors who stated they have seen no differences between panny's MQ and PQ series. I was on a low budget feature where we shot on these and I just finished shooting 5 hrs of tape over the last couple weeks and they work great. Plus they are a couple bucks cheaper a tape than MQs.

One vendor recommended the Sony tapes over the Panasonic's, however I did not ask about the lube issue.
