Sony NEX-FS100 with Super 35mm CMOS image sensor

Nice!
A real challenger for the af100 (same price range, same specs)
I don't quite understand the detachable viewfinder...

The price is a lot cheaper than I thought it would be, having a
lens and mic.
I thought it was going to be $6000 US body only....

I don't mind the lack of HD-SDI but I really hope it is 10bit HDMI however and as sharp as the EX-1.
Time will tell.

Pros/
780 resolved lines (accrdg to nigel)
Great evf/lcd
Comes with 18-200 lens

Cons
No nd filter
No hdsdi
Clunkily made ( accdg to nigel cooper)

It has HDMI vs 1.4 so it has enough bandwidth to do 10 bit. But we don't know if they did that. If you''re using a nanoflash you won't notice anyway.

The kit lens though is f3.5-6.3. Difficult to us indoors without lights. Limits the DOF control too.

Waht is the 28Mbps (pb?)

If you are comparing to an AF100, some other pros may include:

F3 Chip (high latitude and high sensitivity, possibly in the range of 2stops more of both)
Expanded Focus
Dual simultaneous recording
Smaller size

This camera is really strong contender just from the first one in my list alone. Then again, if the June release date I've heard is right, that may have a significant impact. I was hoping it would be available sooner, since a Sony Rep mentioned to me that it would be shipping soon after NAB.

based on current reviews,
the sensor is not as good as the f3.. but lets wait for more reviews.. f3 is 12 stops with s-log.. this does not have an s-log :\ high sensitivty wise, it probably is.
dual simultaenous recording on what? it has one slot. the external sony HD?

my take... great sensor.. bad body. (great evf/lcd though :D)

beautiful camera! This is what I have been waiting for. I could careless about 4;4;4, But I do care about 4;2;2. At least I can get a decent key with it. It's just a great design, modular in a sense. This is as close to a perfect cam in the under 8,000 price range. Im glad I waited.

The list price for the body alone is $5,850 US : Sony Broadcast Page for FS100

Hope I don't get nailed for saying this... But I'm not crazy about the body styling/layout of the FS100. Handheld it looks a bit goofy, and on a tripod it looks like the rest of the camera is missing.

The big pro for this camera is obviously the sensor, and maybe the HDMI output if it ends up being 10-bit. ( Sony isn't saying so far )

Missing features for me are:

- Lack of built-in ND filters
- No SDI output
- No dual SD card slot
- Viewfinder position will be useless on a shoulder mount unless you put the camera on it's side
- Having the XLR inputs split across the side and back of the camera ( cables will definitely get in the way )

I think I'll stick with my AF-100. Sony dropped the ball on this I think. This is much closer to the NEX comsumer cam they have now than the F3 imo. It's a shame, could have been really good.

I agree. I think this camera is in no man's land. The ommision of ND filters on a prosumer/pro level camera is a huge mistake. I would not trust the the sensor is "the same as the F3". I think that is what they want you to believe until proven otherwise. The sensor is probably the second bin of the F3 chips that could not make it (everybody does this in the semiconductor world) throttled back a bit.

The included lens is quite slow imho. They need the image quality to really carry this model because on the outset I would not even consider it.
