Sony MiniDV tape in a DVX100B one time?

I remember reading something about only using Panasonic MiniDV tapes in the DVX100B (which I do). However, I am in the process of converting some Super8 film to digital and the company that does this uses Sony MiniDV tapes.

If I put the Sony tape into the DVX100B one time to capture the video, will that harm the heads or tape transport mechanism?

I remember something about the Sony tapes being lubricated (wet) where the Panasonic tapes are dry?
 
you're using your dvx to capture? go buy $200-300 crapper cam and do whatever you want to it...

mixing wet/dry lube tapes is asking for the red x
 
Yep. Stick with panasonic tapes. They are dry lube, can't go wrong. Also remember that mixing wet/dry tapes in your capture device has the potential to crap up your footage also. Do the right thing, buy panasonic tapes. the extra price is small compared to the piece of mind. The MQ's are just plain reliable tapes anyways.
 
Actually, I use Panasonic tapes religiously (Panasonic MQ). The issue is that I'm having an outside production company convert some Super8 film to digital and they use Sony tapes (for the master).

But I want to capture the video onto my hard drive using their master tape (Sony) with my DVX?
 
I've called sony on two seperate instances and spoke with two different reps and was informed that they are dry lube as well ( Premium ones )
 
I have a cheap camera for capture. And I have had to capture different brands of tape, shot with different cameras, and I haven't had any problems. The general rule is not to mix brands, but I don't think the universe will implode if you do. You could run a head cleaner for a few seconds before switching, and after.

I use Sony Premiums in my DVX100A with no problems.
 
So my understanding is that Sony Premium tapes are dry lube? Thanks guys. I'll check with the production company and see if their technician knows about this also.
 
Bottom line is, DON'T use your DVX for capturing!

Get a cheap consumer camera for that.

And yeah, mixing tapes has the potential to give you problems.

well, thats good to know. I suppose i need to buy some panasonic tapes in bulk, i had mainly been using JVC tapes because i get that at $1/tape. Hopefully that didnt hurt my dvx.
