Sony MDR-7505 headphones

A guy is offering me these headphones for $125 NZD, thats $89 USD, second hand in really good condition., and I intend to use them for my DVX100B as monitoring headphones. Are these any good? Or should I pay more and get the 7506's?

Even considering you're in NZ, the price seems a little high for used. New 7505's can be had for $79 in the states. You can get 7506's for $89. A quick bit of googling show that 7506's are in the $150 NZD range.

The 7505's have the silly circular sort of cups that don't properly fit over normal people's ears, which I generally find annoying. They'd probably do the job, I doubt they're too different in terms of sound character, but for a tiny bit more you can get the ones that fit properly that no one else has sweat on.

I had the MDR-V150's which are the non-professional version of the 7505. The form factor is the same, although I suspect the drivers are different. Anyway, they rest on top of your ear, which can be uncomfortable after a while. They also don't block out any outside sound. The 7506 (which I have now) do a pretty good job of blocking out sound, and they fit very comfortably over the entire ear. Save your money for the 7506.

The 7506 headphones are the industry standard. They are inexpensive, sonically accurate and they fold up. Just buy a new pair of 7506 and be done with it.

Londude,

I bought the 7506 on Ebay new for that price. They are great - swivel and fold away ear pieces. I was looking for a headset and asking advice months ago and most here suggested the 7506 or the Senheisser 280. I am extremely happy with the 7506 and happy that Ebay purchase was 50% of local retail (AU).

Yep the Garfields rock. Register and keep adding to a BnH cart .. when it gets full enough press the send switch .. takes a few months and keep it below your customs import tax limit.

Cheers.
