Sony hdr-fx1000 footage

Hey so I recently made a trip to L.A to film with my friend and wanted to test out his HDR-FX1000. We used a mini HDV tape to film onto and recorded in HDV format on the camera. Unfortunately the firewire connection was blown out on the camera so we could not capture it on his mac. I brought the tape home and tried playing it on my panasonic ag-dv2500 tape deck, and my friends gl2 AND the Panasonic HVX and non of these camera's played the tape back. My friend thinks it is because we recorded in HDV and none of those devices could play back HDV footage. Is this true? is there a way to switch the HVX into HDV mode so that it can play back this footage? I need the footage badly. Thanks.

Sorry but you are going to have to get a HDV camera or deck to get the footage. HVX doesn't do HDV, but you should be able to use any HVD camera to get the footage.

Actually HDV is not often compatible across brands. A canon or JVC camcorder would not likely play sony hdv footage... best to find a sony hdv camcorder to play the sony hdv footage.
