FS7: Sony FX9 and Increased Servo Zoom Speed?

I am wanting to make the jump from my FS7II to an FX9 and am working out the numbers on how to do that. In the meantime, I wanted to ask if anyone on this forum has used the FX9 with the 18-110 (or 28-135 for that matter as my question could pertain to both).

I have the 18-110 and like it quite a lot. It's a true workhorse of a lens. If I can make the switch to the FX9, I plan to keep the 18-110 and use it in the FX9's Super35 mode rather than go with the 28-135 (even though it's not a full frame lens) simply because it's a much better lens in my opinion (better manual focus, better manual zoom, etc.).

That being said, the 18-110 is far from a perfect lens. One of my biggest complaints about it is that its servo zoom is slow and laggy. I've read where the FX9 provides more power to it's handgrip thanks to the different type of connection it uses to connect the grip to the camera. I've also read that lenses like the 18-110 and 28-135 were definitely faster and less laggy with their zooms on the FX9 than they were on the FS5 & FS7 cameras.

I wanted to ask if anyone here can confirm that from firsthand experience. If it is better, can you tell me by how much? If this has been improved then it will make me want the FX9 even more. Thanks guys!

The FX9 servo is much better with 18-110 . Its really pretty good. FS7 absolutely sucked

Wow, really? That's awesome! Yeah on the FS7 it's terrible. Is it quite a bit faster? It's very slow on my FS7. Is it also less laggy?

One last question, is it only better with the handgrip, or is the top handle zoom and/or the lens zoom rocker (the little zoom rocker on the lens) faster and better as well?

Thanks for your input Lenny. This is exactly the info I was looking for.

Might have to slap one on my FX9 and try it out. I was talked out of the 28-135 for it's sluggish performance, but by an FS7 owner. I hear it's way better with the FX9!
