Sony FS700 Starter Kit/Setup? (What did you buy for it)

I'm considering getting this camera. For those that bought one, what all did you need to buy with it to be up and running properly? Hard drives, batteries, rails, etc.? Can someone post their shopping list/price breakdown of their setup with the models so I can see what works with this camera? I have no gear right now, looking to buy some.

Id go for both and record dual if you can.. safe?

I started form scratch 6 months ago, i was freelancing with a basic DSLR kit before this. I got the essentials first which you can decide for what you will be shooting and then just as every job came in i got new kit if needed for that job. I don't really like renting and prefer to take the risk and just buy it.

Hope this helps!

Lens;
- Angenieux 28-70 (20-50 f2 on the speedbooster)

hm i am not sure if its a good lens our days, it has not shperical elements , and most modern lenses will out perform it, especially compared to its price and wieght! it was a great one some times long ago... but now,-
i also have that tokina that is based on Angenieux 28-70 design ..... and i would say its kind of soft....

regards

Hey, i was just listeing my gear, not trying to sell anyone anything, I get it that you are not a fan of the Angenieux ;-)

Thread hijack;

I work on a 24foot screen Christe 2K projector in a Dolby certified gradeing theatre, or on a Dolby PR4200 refrence monitor in another gradeing suite... the Angenieux i own is sharp when cut against the modern Zeiss & Roiknon's on the big screen.. i get lovely skintones and lower contrast, the lower contrast is help with the FS100's somewhat challenged DR - bonus

Another perspective is a from a friend who owns a set of CP2's borrowed the Angenieux last week to shoot a commerical on an Epic... lovely skintones was the reason

I also own a Tokina gen1 copy of the lens, and although the build quality is not as solid as the French version, there is little to give between them on screen

The Tokina version can be had for under $500 if you hunt around, at that price it might be worth testing in the real world?

back to thread... my only things on my wish list still is some small / light / big, fat CRI lighting instruments.. pretty happy with everything else for now, maybe a Angenieux 25-250HR in a year or so, again for the look, and much less expensive than the equaly lovely Cooke

I tried to go for the lightest, simplest, most cost-effective hand-held configuration. After a bunch of research I'm putting together:

Berkey systems grip relocator
alphatron EVF
edelkrone EVF mount

metabones speed booster
Tamron 24-70 f2.8 with stabilising (warning the focus ring turns the Nikon way - otherwise great lens)
Sigma 70-200 f2.8 with stabilising

In the future i'll put rails on with the Element Micron base plate kit and I'm thinking seriously about the wacky edelkrone focusplus follow focus with handles kit.

lol i wanted to hear your opinion about it, i expressed my thoughts about it.... i did not used it my self ...... and that option if say true did makes me interested. but i did used tokina version, and did not like it much, but again its kind of a different lens produced buy different manufacture.

what i d like to ask how long is the focus throw on your Angenieux? and do u have any clips posted somewhere where u used your Angenieux ? would love to see it

Regards

To do some sports filming I got the SELP18200 with the Tilta VCT-14 shoulder mount, Berkey plate, Solid Camera VF mount, Cineroid Retina EVF and West AV grip extenders. When I use Nikon zooms, FF and MB, it's a lot bulkier.

For people with the Tilta rig:
1. What does it weigh? (looks heavy).
2. Does it maintain the standard 85mm distance between rails and center of lens (for Matt box)?
3. Where did you get the tripod plate that it locks into?
Thanks

I have the movcam rig. Just about the whole thing and it's pretty heavy. I'm looking at another solution perhaps a thinner baseplate (look at baseplates for the F3) ones with rails (f/b). On the back rails I'll put shoulder support, if it doesn't already have one along with my battery 14v v lock. I will extend the handgrip and use that for front support on the other side I have my FF with soon to be odysseyQ and maybe matte box. Put the stock handle back on top and I think I might have something more comfortable. For any of the fs700 rigs out there are all real nice but do add weight I'm certainly looking to shed. If that helps? Best to you

I have the Tilta rig and bought quick release plate on Ebay, although you can find it at Adorama, used or new. It is a bit heavy - but you will get used to it. It is a well made and durable. Been using Dfocus FF unit with no problems.

I don't think it weighs that much and feel like a little added weight for the 700 is needed anyways. I ordered mine from Intellytech.com in Colorado and Aaron is usually available to field any questions you have (let him know that Paul Helling sent you for a 5% discount). I believe the rail height is fine unless you put the whole cage on the rig then you will need a longer front riser that Aaron will put on the rig in place of the standard one. I found at least 3 Sony plates for sale on craigslist for under $100 when I was looking in the LA area. I got mine for $75.
