Sony FS700 footage in race car.

We spent the day at Irwindale Racetrack shooting lots of slow mo, interviews and b-roll but I wanted to share this footage from the passenger seat as I prepare to edit it all together.
The torque in this car pushed the camera to its limits. I really had to struggle not to loose control of the camera. So yes, there are rolling shutter artifacts but these are extreme conditions.
The slow mo is sooo buttery and sexy that I predict 240fps will be the new bokeh, the new streak filter, the new slider...

Very interesting ... did you get action outside of the car? I await the slow-mo shots.

Dynamic Range looked Awful in the Picture. Did you get a Chance to use the Onboard Nd filters? Other than that, I did not see any Jello, or Rolling Shutter which is huge for me Because Im considering Getting this Camera Instead of the New 1d C or C300. I Am glad you did the CAR test as I will Be using the Camera for Lots of ACTION 2nd Unit Stuff. Cant Wait to See the Slow Mo

Dynamic range is a strong suit of this camera. The interior of the car was much darker than the sky. I agree with Andy Shipsides' evaluation where he shows 11.5 stops, which is amazing. I did a very rough pass in Premiere for that footage.

Right now Thomas at Rarevision is doing final color grading for me. We decided against doing a "camera test" video, as you'll see. The grade we're putting on it is what we would have done for a sexy ad-spot, so blacks will get a little crushed, etc.

On-board ND's worked as expected, nice to have in camera. Since I work a lot with the Panasonic 2700 I take these things for granted.

Had the rare opportunity to play with a pre-release of the FS700. Only had about a day to put this shoot together.

The track wasn't sure what we were doing so they let us shoot a couple students for an afternoon. We tried to make the most of it.
We had some fun, mixed up the frame rates and shutter angles. Tried to push the color grade to see where the codec fell apart. Typical stuff most of us would do on our own shoots, I think.

It's hard to beat the 11-16 for in cockpit shooting.
I am looking forward to testing the FS700, it looks to be a great addition to the kit.
