FS7: Sony FS7 Demo Camera Just Arrived At Texas Media Systems

Will you be offering the 28-135mm E mount zoom lens? And the back unit adapter? Preferably in a package.

Gary, with the exception of the F5/55 cameras almost all Sony product is on a 12 month 0% deal. That said if you purchase one of those cameras pretty much anything else you put on the order gets in under the 24 month deal...

regards

Yes, we'll be stocking and selling the 28-135mm lens when the lens starts shipping in December.

We will be able to bundle the 28-135mm & the XDCA-FS7 Extension Unit on FS7 leases, but we'll have to wait for Sony to announce any formal packages.

The camera's output looks great and the dynamic range is amazing. It looks to be the XDCam EX of 4K.

I'm not so sure that the audio system is going to be as good as XDCam EX though. I downloaded the owner manual and read the specs. Sony only specs the frequency response from 50-20,000, not 20-20,000 like a normal digital recorder would, especially one with 24-bit audio. And only 90dB. My MOTU 896 gives me 136 dB of measurable dynamic range (144 theoretical max for 24-bit). I would expect a lot more than 90dB, else 24-bit audio is file bloat.

I'm happy with my present PMW EX3 cameras, as their audio is flat down to the single digits and up to 22KHz and I've been using them for concert shoots without a separate audio system, which enables me to get more work from soloists because I can price it in their budget due to the simpler equipment setup and editing requirements.

I'm ready to hit the "Buy" button at B&H for this rig, but that audio spec has brought me to a screeching halt until I can find out if that's the built in mic's response, or a mistake in the spec. Surely digital devices today are all flat from DC to Nyquist! I hope this is not another HVR-V1U, with intentionally crippled audio. The question is, how to find out without incurring a restocking fee if it turns out no good?
