..so i sent sony support this message..

'Hi , I've got a snapped part, Its the bit that attached the screen to the body via a 'Arri Rosette'. Ive superglued it for now, but I don't think that's going to do the job forever. How best/quickest can i get a replacement please? '

..& got this somewhat surprising response...

'Thank you for contacting Sony support in regards to your Sony FS-5 audio system. We are sorry to learn that your device has been snapped. In regards to your query, please note that your Sony FS-5 is not a UK product, so unfortunately we will not be able to provide any technical information related to it. However, we recommend you to check with the technical support team for the country of origin for further assistance regarding this matter. Should you have any further questions, please feel free to reply to this email.

That is a terrible response from Sony. Apologies for cross-posting to another forum but there is some good information in this DVinfo thread that might be of interest (i.e. replace the broken Sony part with a better engineered alternative).

You are now the second person I know of that has snapped this part so i think I'll be doing the same...just in case mine ever snaps on a job too.

post a screengrab of the email on Sony US and EU's twitter feed and ask if they can help. Sadly they only respond to shaming these days.

They admitted my A7s had a fault and suggesting instead of fixing it I use an elastic band over the mount they made poorly.

Ah many thanks ! Have ordered the 'small rig' replacement from Amazon that someone else mentioned in that thread..

yeah, good plan...i shall have to break out twitter to moan at them in under 160 letters ;)

I ordered mine yesterday, soon after commenting/reading this thread...it'll be useful until the plastic Sony version breaks anyway.

The other thing that people might find useful is a link to a replacement eyecup. I lost mine about 6 months ago whilst walking in a city with the camera at my side. My leg must have brushed against it, and since it's only a light, push on fit, I must have dislodged it...and of course by the time I'd noticed it and retraced my steps it was nowhere to be found. Whilst not a totally essential part I bet I won't be the only person to loose the FS5 rubber eyecup!

Someone on one of the forums (can't remember which one) recommended this link. I bought it back in the summer and it looks (and I believe is) totally identical to the original FS5 eyecup (fits perfectly....and also fits the X70 apparently).

I also have the C-Cup on my C100 which I gather can "sort of fit" the FS5 eyepiece (but have never tried it).

The SmallRigs clamp part arrived this morning. Beautifully engineered and of course robust. Makes the Sony plastic part look like something off a kids toy...no jokes from FS7 owners saying that it is please!
