The title pretty much nutshells it. I noticed that on Metabones' compatibility list, the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM is not listed however, I was curious to know if anyone here has ever tried this combo? I got a great deal on a used one. OS work? AI or AF any good (although I don't care about auto focus save for a rare occasion...well, really I don't). : 0 )

I have the Sony 18-105 and, while it's great in a lot of ways, coming from shooting on very expensive ENG lenses, I find the focus a bit difficult to deal with. I will be getting the Sigma 24-105 with the EF-E Metabones speedbooster (this looks like a killer combo) and was looking at the 17 - 50 to fill a bit of the wider end and as a more "general purpose" solution.

Cheers all

Field of view and aperture should be nearly the same as the 24-105 + Speedbooster as the 17-50mm is a crop sensor lens (and is therefore incompatible with the Speedbooster). I don't think you would benefit from both.

Thanks for your response Nate. Yes, I suppose with the Speedbooster you are correct in both respects. I have other cameras I can attach Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 to so no biggie. It was a great price and we can't have too many lenses.

The heart of my question really relates to the functionality of the 17-50 via the Metabones mkIV on the FS5 - primarily OS but I am also curious about AF/AI. - and if anyone here has used this combination.

I remember the OS on this lens being very subtle and not as effective as the Canon lenses' stabilization. I tried it many years ago on the old FS100. In fact the OS struck me close to useless.

I'd be surprised if Sigma of the new era didn't also improve on OS.

This is my go to setup for my interview setup--FS5 + 18-35 [with Metabones EF to E mk IV]. This lens is on my FS5 about 70% of the time [the other most frequently used lens is my Rokinon Cine 50mm]. The Sigma Art lens [as all of them] are sharp as expected even when wide open.

Shooting with the Sigma 18-35 made me get the 50-100mm [despite its terrible focus breathing problems] since my setups barely have me rack focus anyway. You already know but it's a pleasure being able to shoot wide open and use the FS5's variable ND.

This was shot entirely with the Sigma 18-35: https://vimeo.com/208513596

I don't have any experience with Sigma lenses, but with Canon zooms on the Speed Booster, focusing on my FS7 (and my B-cams) is so much easier and pleasant than with the focus-by-wire EF lenses (and even more so compared to the only native M43 lens I have on my GH5 - the PanaLeica 35-100mm). The focus ring on my Canon lenses has much shorter throw than that on the FS7 kit lens (the 28-135mm F4), but is precise enough. Recommended!
