FS5: Sony FS5 - Beautiful Sample Footage and Real World Test

Call me Gloriously Unimpressed.

What the heck was wrong with the color on so many of those shots? Did someone intentionally ruin it by thinking they had done some "cool grade"?

Camera looks these days are a lot like microphones - different folks like different characters.

But that footage was not what I'd consider professionally usable.

I dunno. I thought some of those shots looked great and certainly 'professionally usable'.
But other shots did look like they were graded and in a strange way. So I'm like
in between here, not really sure I can draw any conclusions other than the same
thing that can be said for most cameras these days.....it can produce both nice images
or crappy ones, depending on the skill of the DP and color grader.

Nice shots.... looks like stock footage strung together. No story...no connection between shots. Some look good and others don't. If it all was shot with the FS5, it still shows what people are doing with it and the results they are getting with it... for better or worse. As an aside... I am particularly fond of the the Falcon video that Alister Chapman shot with the FS5. It is referenced on this site.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, although I have to agree with others in that this footage looks poor. The slow motion shots are inexplicably soft and most shots appear to have an extremely thin color palette.

I think the grade is superb. Half of the videos I see I hate the way they're graded. Mostly they're too milky, and the three channels --- red, green, and blue --- are poorly balanced. This video looks beautiful and natural at the same time.

There's a perfectly reasonable technical explanation for softening in slow motion is there not so it can hardly be described as 'inexplicable', right?
