FS5: Sony FS5 2 Channel Audio?

Is there a way to limit the FS5 (in camera) to 2 Channels of Audio instead of 4 for times your only using two? It'd make editing a bit faster/simplier.

Thanks in advance!

Also note that if you are using EditReady to read and transcode these files, there is an option to remove unused audio channels.

If you edit with Premiere I can post those instructions. The process is simple and non-destructive to the native files.

As described in my FS7 and FS5 books and training videos:

First import a batch of clips into a new bin. Select all the clips in the bin at once . . . then right-click on any clip . . . and choose “Modify > Audio Channels.” This then brings up a dialog box where you can configure the audio channels however you want. You could even strip off all the audio tracks if you didn’t want them. I usually choose “2” for the number of tracks and “Mono” for the channel format. Next, when you click “OK,” all of the clips in the bin that were selected will be instantly changed with no re-rendering or other hassles. And since it’s non-destructive, you can always restore the missing audio channels if you change your mind later.

BTW, if you have already put any of the clips on a timeline, the change won't be applied to the clips on the timeline.

if the choice is mono, you have two mono channel in time-line..i test with stereo..bather work for my with PluralYes :-)[h=1][/h]

Yes, choose stereo if that works better for your footage. I choose mono because normally my audio is two mono sources, such a lav and a shotgun mic on an interview. But either way it is really easy to configure the audio however you want it Premiere and everyone should be able to get it setup however they want. Tons of options.

FCPX can automatically strip silent audio channels even if EditReady converted them first.

Sorry If i bring this up again,

How can i record 4 separate chanels on the FS5? My scenario is this: two wireless lav and a Boom.

Thanks in advance

You can't record more than two tracks of audio on an FS5. When you bring in the video and audio tracks into an NLE, there are four tracks, but only two are active, because Sony removed that capability on the FS5. You will need to use an external recorder. I do it on a routine basis.

tracks 3 & 4 on FS5

tracks 3 & 4 on FS5

I'm wondering if these "extra" audio tracks will ever become available in a future firmware upgrade, or if they are just part of the codec spec the the FS5 doesn't support. If I could access these tracks via the FS5 "active" hot shoe, I'd spring for SONY's dual channel wireless in a heartbeat. Wishful thinking...

That was exactly my thoughy/wish, to use the dual wireless hotshoe receiver, which name i never remember
