I recently did the DOP on this music video, directed by Boran Richard:

Artist: Patrice Michaud (www.patricemichaud.ca)
Song: Des trous dans les bas

It's in french. The title, Des trous dans les bas means Holes in the socks. In fact, it's about doing something with your life. Go do something with your life, go make some holes in your socks.

We worked with two very talented professionnal dancers and a choregrapher.

The video mix differents techniques, some standard footage, some slow motion, and some stop-motion animation. The animated parts was shot with a 5D MKII. We used the technicolor Cine Style profile in the 5D and the technicolor Abel Cine scene file in the FS100 and it was pretty easy to match the two cam during color correction.

We used a bunch of lenses:

Sony 18-200, Sony 16mm pancake, Tokinon 11-16, Samyang 35mm and 85mm, Nikkor 50mm Teh two main lenses used was the Tokina and the Samyang 35mm.

Please comment or ask questions about lighting, gear, or whatever you want to know! It's the first time I am asked to work on a music video, so I am really interested by your comments![/TD]

Sorry. The producer deleted it for a weird reason. It's back online now, I have updated the link in the original message. Enjoy!

I like it! I noticed in part the singer was singing while the dancers all looked like they were slow-mo. How did you do that?

Thank you for your comment. About the slow motion, this is an old trick in music videos. You set the camera to shoot faster (in this case 60p for a final 30p) and the singer do his lip sync on a reference track that is played faster by the same ratio (in this case, 2X). So when the footage is played back to the delivery speed and the real music track is synched with it on the time line, the singer sing at normal speed while the rest of the movements are in slow motion.

HI everyone,

I Recently DPed another music video with the same team, for the same artist:

There is still a lot of stop motion animation in it, more than in the first one. All the stop motion sequence have been shot with the 5D MKII on still mode, and all the live action sequences originated form the FS100.

Let me know what do you think!

Nice! I like the stop motion... looks a little like the Gotye music video. How did you do the bit where he sings in real-time whilst the writing on the wall behind him appears? Was it like an animatte in post? So you filmed a clean without him in shot and then matted him in on the right?

Yeah, that was the inspiration for the concept.

Exactly, we first filmed the singer in real time on a clean wall, and then shot the animated sequence without the signer and merged the two in post.

Thanks for your comments!
