Sony FS100 color matching with Nikon D800 - Help

Look at the images with a WFM, Vectorscope, and RGB Parade display and try to adjust cameras until the levels match - that should get you very close.

It looks like the Nikon has more greenish yellow in it than does the FS100. I'm saying this after looking at the white circle surrounding the "b."

I think the Sony is a tad colder in overall look. I think they are quite close and tweaking curves in post may get you closer. Play with the blue curve on the d800 footage in the mids and highs just a little, or maybe even white balance being set off by 100 Kelvin helps.

I wouldn't sell the D800 :)

I think both are great. FS100 is way better I think though, just because I like to use the zebras when I shoot and it has a bigger sensor.
Actually, the D800 has the bigger sensor, LOL! And zebras I can get used to not having. Image wise, which do like better? Thanks.

Can you post a useful, thoughtful response to the question about how their image qualities compare?

I am wonder ,which dslr is the easiest to match to fs100 ? I am thinking about something from sony nex line , but some of them has issue like overheat 5n, 7 , nex 6 has not audio input . Maybe 7n gonna be free from this issue . What is your B camera ? And how you manage to match to sony `look ` ???

I had this exact issue as I was hired for 3 jobs that required two cameras. I wasn't getting enough to
justify buying another FS100 but needed something. I found a store demo unit of the VG20 for less
than $1000. For me it was perfect. Takes all my lenses and adapter from the FS100. But no limits
on runtime like the NEX stills line. All 3 gigs required long run times...up to 2 continuous hours.
VG 20 matches the FS100 pretty well, not a fan of the touch screen, but all in all a good b cam for
the FS100. Only way I would have been happier was if they paid enough that I could have bought
a FS700 and made the FS100 the b cam! Full review of the VG 20 as well as video examples
of matching VG 20 and FS 100 will go up on my blog soon.

The Sony A77, is a very close match. It's easy to tweak FS100 to a similar palette, anything further for a match is simple in resolve.

You can even share the same lenses with the Sony E to Alpha adapter. The A77 is very affordable, and I've never had an overheating issue. It's an all around great HDSLR, it's a shame it doesn't get more attention.
