Sony FS 700 4K Questions

Does this mean that it will be 4:4:4 only when the 4K image is downscaled to HD or 2K? Or could the 4K image also be 4:4:4? If it is true that it is only 4:4:4 once down scaled what would the source footage be? Also, does the bit depth also increase when we downscale or just the color space?

Notice, he did not say that it will be 4K 10Bit 4:4:4. In context, it seems that what is now 8Bit 4:2:2 (HD) will then give us 10Bit (some say 12Bit) 4:4:4 HD with the upgrade. I am guessing as an added benefit to the 4K upgrade?
What do you think? I am sure I could just be taking what they said wrong or out of context. Can someone with more knowledge please clarify?

It will absolutely not be 4:4:4 at 4K - but then again, neither's a Red or a C500, so you shouldn't expect it to be.

But it should be 4:4:4 when downscaled to 1080p or 2k.

Thanks for the reply Barry. So what will the color be? 4:2:2 or do we know? When they talk about RAW or uncompressed are they talking about the 4k image or the downscaled HD image? Can you help me understand RAW and what it means and does not mean as far as bit and color depth and compression? For some reason I thought raw was 4:4:4. Do different manufactures have different definitions for RAW?

Did I interpet the last video correctly? I am not so interested in 4K as I am in the downscaled 10 or 12 Bit 4:4:4 HD. Do you think we can get that right out of the camera into the recorder without doing it in post? if so that will be great. Thanks

I am sure I am not the only one who has been confused on this and Sony marketing has not helped.
you're definitely not alone. with each manufacturer defining "RAW," "LOG" and 4K in their own way, utilizing their own terminology, it's a new frontier for all image-makers.

Until sony actually release something i'd be a bit dubious. The FS100 was down as having 10 bit uncompressed output until such time as it was released officially.

Technically the FS100 has 4:4:4 output over HDMI, meaning each pixel is a different colour. However because they are being created from a bayer sensor those colours aren't technically individual RGB colours but mathematically derived. If you have full RAW out from the 4K sensor then you could argue it's not technically 4:4:4 but close. Downsampling would yield good oversampling and you could definitely call 1080p 4:4:4 on it.

cheers
