Sony FS-100 Camera Handgrip on your rig

Hi:
I always wondered how people started and stopped their FS-100 when it was mounted on their rigs. I looked at a number of rigs that people put together and just didn't see anything on any of their handles to accomplish this. Yes, you can reach up and hit the red button on the camera, but what a pain.

But there is a very inexpensive and easy way to utilize the Sony side mounted camera handle that comes with the camera, if only because it has a very helpful on/off switch. The Sony handle has a 1/4-20 thread coming out of the side.

Attach the Sony handle to a short 15mm rod using a Berkey Systems 15mm to 1/4-20 Accessory Mounting Post, and attach that to one of their 15mm Right Angle Blocks. You can attach the whole assembly to any part of your 15mm rig.Handle 2.jpgHandle 3.jpg

I like it. I like it a lot.

Have been using a Zoe Bebob controller from the old Z1 days on my Half Inch Rails rig.

But this little thingy would really be nice on a smaller lighter rig (shoulder and rails) in the same way that there's solutions to relocate the FS700 grip with its Arri rosette.

Small correction to specific Berkey part:

I used a Berkey Systems "Flat Top Mount "instead of what I described earlier as "Accessory Mounting Post."

Nice. Where can you get a LANC extension cable? I wanted to try this with mine but my adventures in Google-Land yielded nothing on the LANC extension. I must be looking for love in all the wrong places.

UPDATE: seems I have been looking in the wrong places. If I search for Sony LANC extension cables I get nothing shorter than 6 feet. But if I drop the Sony indicator I see there are cables listed for Canon/Sony & Panasonic cams for as short as 20 inches. Curse you Google and your specificity.

Most of the LANC eextensions are usually six to ten or more feet long usually for remotes used with jib arms. You can get away with a 2.5mm male to female cable and probably find one at a local electronics store or for sure on line at EBAY in a length that works for the FS100 hndle or if you are handy with a soldering iron make your own with aa couple of connectors and some shielded cable.
