Finally! We have to wait until late February but this is good news to all owners!

Appreciate Sony listening to all the understandably disgruntled users. I'm also glad they are releasing a "guideline" as I feel a lot of the artifacts are caused by certain settings by users. I personally have had a hard time replicating the issues.

Finally? The camera has only been out for a few months.

True but it could be argued that Sony released a seemingly beta firmware with all the issues it come out with. It's not good when a $6k camera is getting outperformed by their mirrorless stills cameras at half the price.

I had just posted that comment from Sony in another forum. Beta firmware? Sony doesn't work that way.

As I said, "seemingly" beta firmware. It's not an isolated incident either, Sony shipped out both FS7 and A7SII with firmwares plagued with bugs and issues. Not minor bugs and issues mind you, stuff like overheating and "black hole" sun exposure problems. Things that are unacceptable in a paid professional environment. I feel is rushing these cameras out with buggy firmwares.

Maybe, but it has kept me from ordering the camera. I am just now feeling Sony has addressed some of the needs of users for the Sony FS7 and am looking more at purchasing that camera because of more flexibility of supplying clients with what they need from an "A" camera. The FS5 may fill a role , for me, as a "B" camera, but we will see. I never purchase a camera any more until all issues that I care about are confirmed functional. No promises of firmware fixes.

I agree that buying the camera for what it is now not what it might be is a smart business choice. On the other hand there will never be a perfect camera they all have their quirks.

None of the issues with the FS7 kept it from shooting for me all last year and I was getting rental requests every month. Yes vrs 3.0 fixes some issue and adds a ton of features but non of those ever kept me from being able to shoot content my clients loved and earn money. Its been the best earning camera I have purchased and is still the best camera price/feature wise on the market even over a year into my ownership.

Other than the noise reduction smearing at high iso's (which should be fixed in the next month or two) what is the FS5 not have that you need? I have a friend that has an FS5 and loves it but then again shoots lit corporate stuff and has never been up the ISO range.
