FS7: Sony FE PZ 28-135mm: any happy users?

We know its not wide enough, not fast enough etc.
None the less are there any users that have been sooting with this lens on a regular basis that have positive and consistent results with it and would like to share their findings?

yes I'm happy with it. I believe it underrated. I just put it longer post about it in a different thread.

for owner of this lens, is your lens come with the little knob that attach to the focusing ring? My lens come without it. Called Sony and they said they don't have that knob. The lens is packed and waiting for UPS to return it back to Adorama.

This is the knob i'm talking about:

Sure would be interesting to see some footage of what it actually looks like in action with some pushes and pulls in a variety of different types of setups. The action of the zoom and focus rings is one thing but what about the optics?!!

The optics were designed too also use with higher resolution dslrs like the A7. There have been no complaints when pixel peeping at the higher resolutions.

Not pixel peeping but how it looks. Aesthetics. How the lens groupings make the lines appear when panning across a scene, how things look when zooming in and out, bokeh and light fall off to name a few considerations.

For both Andrew and Mark, the 28 135 was designed for full frame and we're shooting s35. We're only using the sweet spot. I haven't seen any CA, soft corners or barrel/pincushon distortion in any shoots so far.

I think the reason they went only 28mm wide was to avoid distortion. Is really a general purpose cinema lens.

So if this is a full frame lens on a S35 sensor, then 28mm is not really 28mm in terms of 35mm sensor size, is it? There's a crop factor. 28mm would be plenty wide otherwise. But I hear people complaining that this lens is too narrow. But good on the sharpness and lack of CA. I wonder what lens was used to shoot that "Snowlight" video. It had tons of CA whenever the sun was peeking through the trees and ruined an otherwise nice shot.

In DSLR terms, they call it 'crop factor'. I know it's silly. Wow, the FOV is really quite narrow at 25mm! My EX3 has a 4mm lens, no wonder it's reasonably wide. S35 doesn't start to get reasonably wide until down to 10mm.
This should be fine for shooting orchestra closeups from the balcony. But if I want to do some wide angle street video, I'm going to need another kind of lens.

28mm is 28mm. What you are talking about is a different or a larger Field of View or FOV on Full Frame versus S35. Have a look and study this FOV app on the AbelCine website:

Mark, I'm well aware of what FOV and crop factor are and how they interplays between FF and S35. What I said was that in my subjective perception the lens seemed a little wider than 28mm.

Yeah, it's only in the low 40 degree range though. But it seems long enough to get musician closeups from a balcony, so that end of the service will be covered. But still, I'll need something that goes much wider for other types of shoots.

Super35 doesn't "start to get reasonably wide" until 10mm? Are you kidding? 16-18mm is usually considered a decent wide angle for S35

BTW, the stock lens on the EX3 is 5.8mm (not 4mm), and that lens has the equivalent FoV of a 21mm lens on a S35 camera. So if the EX3 is wide enough for you, then you should be very happy with anything under 20mm on the FS7.

No, the stock lens isn't wide enough for the outdoor shoots I do. That's why I bought the 8XS Fujinon lens for my EX3. At 4mm, it's good for landscapes and passable for indoor work in reasonably size spaces. Tight quarters, not so good. Need even wider to film in elevators, etc.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if you were talking about the stock lens or not.
The equivalent lens on the FS7 would be 14.4mm.
I have a Duclos 11-16 that I bet you would love.

Up in this class of lens, there's not much zoom ratio, is there? Many of the lenses I've looked at have very limited range. The range, like I enjoy on the EX3 are over $20K for the FS7 type cams.

Maybe you want the Sony 18-200 SEL-P e mount with power zoom. About $800. It ramps though.
