I have the model Sony F900 (not the R) and all it has is bnc component connectors for monitor, no hd-sdi.

Do you have the Miranda set-up correctly? It’s been close to 15 years or so since I’ve shot with a 900 with a Miranda or Evertz on a regular basis, but I believe there were dip-switches on the (Miranda) body for frame rate, SD or HD output, etc. Also, can the Atomos handle PsF?

*edit*
Just googled a pic of the Miranda. There are dip-switches for selecting whole or non-integer frame rates, PsF or interlaced, HD or SD output and input from an SDI source or the “cam”(meaning from the multi-pin connector on the back of the cam above the native V-Mount).

And it’s also possible that after 15 or so years, it just doesn’t work anymore.

It's a little tough to tell from the pic, but make sure the dip switch for Cam/HD-SDI is towards Cam(left) to receive the signal from the multi-pin(Can't remember if there are any menu settings in the camera for it or not, it's been too long) and presuming you're here in the US, frame rates are towards non-integer rates(23.98/29.97, etc.)(left). Looks like HD OUT is flipped ON. And see if that does the trick.

Ok, thank you, will do I switched the dip switch to the left as instructed, so i'll try this converter option, which cables do I need for the blackmagic converter?

if you do go that route it would be three bncs carrying component signal out to the convertor.

Remember the little "mini" Miranda that bolted on over top of the side mounted analog component outs?
.

Many shadowy memories of various downconverters (Miranda, Evertz) which all cost an arm and a leg--finally the $500 Decimator came along to save the day!

I can't remember anything more about the Miranda unit, but there remains a question whether the signal is coming out of the camera into the Miranda, or if the Miranda itself is working.

Here's a really inexpensive (although not ideal) way to test your signal flow: search Amazon for component to HDMI converter, there are many for $20. You'll also need three RCA to BNC adaptors which are also cheap. Connect that up to the camera on one end and any TV with HDMI on the other (if it doesn't work, try it on a few TV's...if the camera is putting out 23.98psf, not all consumer TV's may be able to take that signal). If you get picture, you are at least in the ballpark. The Blackmagic should do a better job of the analog to digital conversion and give you the SDI out you need for your Samurai at that point. If that doesn't work, you may have an issue with your camera.

(UPDATE) OK I switched to the HD-SDI to cam and that worked! so I have a signal but now its just a black screen

I was able to grab a signal by switching around the dip switches, now its just a black screen in the atomos, So im assuming I have to hook the bnc components to a monitor for picture and sending another cable via atomos to that monitor? or is it some other some configuring with the camera?

Okay, now make sure you have a BNC plugged into the HD-SDI OUT on the Miranda(this Miranda does not use the component connectors on the camera) and then plug the other end into the SDI IN on the monitor. Even on professional monitors, not all of them like PsF, so if you are still not getting a signal then, try flipping the dip-switch for PsF/i(interlaced) to ‘i’.
