F55: Sony F55 / F5 and Arri Alexa Dynamic range DR

I'm completely puzzled because the frame of the Alexa looks completely different than the 55 frame. I think they said they were identical conditions of different days? The low angle 55 shot looks like it's got a fill bounce!

In my experience, the Alexa and 55 are much more closely matched.

Whole thing seems wildy unscientific for extracting much from it.

What about black sun spots on Alexa in video 3?

exactly, there's a fill bounce on the f55 footage and the alexa footage looks to be wildly overexposed in one of the later "highlight" tests. Two completely different shots doesn't tell me much of anything.

Was so excited to watch it but then started feeling like someone was having a laugh and the whole thing was a spoof. Weird..

What about it? Yeah, it's an issue worth noting or avoiding, but has little to do with dynamic range.

This video says more about the attentiveness of its creator than the viability of these camera systems.

I've pointed an Alexa straight at the sun and never had that. Early Red "builds" had it, I understand it's a side effect of CMOS, but I haven't seen it in years.

Been involved in some camera tests over the years, some published, some not so it's not in my nature to be judgmental about these things, but yeah, I'm thinking we could use some more science in this one.

Interesting framing on the chart (Back up 8ft and "hope to resolve 1000 lines"?)- I really cant figure out if this is a joke or not. Fun to watch regardless- those lenses look quite nice.

Ok I realize its not a joke now as I watched all the videos, I take it that this person is trying hard to prove the f55 and sony lenses he bought are the best set-up over alexa. I think he needs to get scientific here to sway any DP's or directors. Maybe the f5/55 hasnt been well received in ZA?

Bizarre, I'm at something of a loss as to why anyone would put so much effort into such an obviously unusable test? I have to appreciate the effort, but I don't understand the purpose.

Does anyone know their site? He says he will post the "results" on a site, but what site is that?

So far all I see is these youtube clips
