F5: Sony F5 Lense Options

Hi,
does anybody know if the old sony prime lenses (F3) work with a F5 @2K oder 4K?

Is it possible to use S16 zoom lenses @ 2K with the F5?
For example the canon 8 - 64 T2.4 PL?

I have 2 more "old" lenses in use:
Angenieux Zoom 3,2 / 25 - 250 mm Type 10 x 25 T2 PL-mount
Angenieux Zoom 2,9 / 20 - 120 mm PL-mount

Anyone tested them with the F5?

best regards
Phil

If I'm using old Nikons and Tokinas to shoot 4k on the F55 I'm quite certain there would be no issues with the F3 prime lens set but perhaps someone here has tried them on the F5/F55 already (in 4k).

Right now using a s16 lens on the F5 you would have to shoot 4k RAW and crop to 2k in post. You could shoot 2k XAVC internally but by the time you crop it in post you will end up with something less than 1000x526.

This December Sony is releasing via free firmware update a 2k RAW center scan mode for 16mm lenses which will basically use the entire 4k sensor and crop it to 2k and record in that format saving you from doing it in post.

For more info on this check out the official release page: http://community.sony.com/t5/F5-F55...information-September-12th/m-p/181017#U181017

The only BIG question about it is if they will debayer before or after the crop, resulting in quite a drastic difference in quality between the two methods which so far we're seeing in the HFR implementation to be less than ideal.

EDIT: Sorry this statement is not correct

...and surely you must assume they debayer after the crop otherwise they wouldn't have enough processing power (except upto 60fps I suppose?)

Sorry Steve, I am confusing the issues regarding pixel binning to get a full frame 2k image from a 4k sensor (what HFR uses) and the new s16 mm center scan mode coming in December.

Since the s16 mm center scan mode is ACTUALLY A CROP of the full 4k sensor to produce only a portion of the image (ie. 2k) then we might be okay with this new center scan mode not producing any artifact issues. Now if they want to offer the center scan mode higher than 60p that may very well lead to the issues I had previously mentioned.

cheers,

It seems to me that unless they do some wizardry what you'll be left with when using centre scan is no aliasing because they're not downscaling, but less resolution because you only read 2k pixels and then debayer. This is what we find on the Epic - it's OK, but it's not great - sort of like softish HD. Looks like an either / or - at least you have the option - with Epic it's centre crop only.
