Sony F35 Front Plate Modification to Fit Nikon Lenses - Group Idea

So I was thinking and everyone let me know what your thoughts are

if we try to get all the recent F35 owners who want to do the Nikon lens modification from the PL mount at a CNC shop - we can all try to do it more in bulk I guess to save money and time for the shop?

Let me know how many people are interested and maybe we try to track down some more front plates from Sony and figure it out from there

thanks

Great idea! I've been thinking about getting the F35 and almost went for it the other day. If the one on ebay doesn't sell soon then I might be interested in this as well.

I'm definitely interested! Been trying to get it done here in Norway, but no-one has been up to the task yet. Since I'm in Europe it will take a couple of days to ship it over, though.

Does anybody have a reasonable guess as to how much such a mod would cost? I'm definitely curious as this info would factor into my decision on whether to pick up a used f3 or f35. I'm going to step up from my FS100 to something s-log here in the next few weeks or so. Used f3 and used f35 prices are close enough to make the f35 more than do-able--- if I don't have to buy PL glass, that is. But if such a mod pushes the hidden real price of an f35 up by too much then an f3 makes more sense for me. I already have the rest of the kit that I see on macgregor's f35 set up, so this would be the only hidden cost for me. Would love to have some clarity on it. Even a rough guess would help.

I might be interested too, depending on the finish quality.
I asked Illya from Hot rod cameras already, and his quote was around $4K.
I finally made the modification at a lens shop in Spain, for around $1K.

Well this is a good start. I am thinking like Hunter is thinking - less camera specilized shop and more just a custom part shop like a CNC shop or some automobile modification site.

Please everyone else let me know if you are interested so I could tell the person.

Also I need to look into a source for the front plates - maybe Sony has a bunch they are trying to get rid of.

WE could contribute with special Nikon ProLock F35 edition. I've converted few High Speed cameras before....

that would be amazing. I am trying to find the part number for the front plate.

I know Otto has some - but would be easier if I can just order straight from Sony. Guys do you have any ideas?

Opitek - I'll try to reach out to you about this - what you think about it.

thanks

$4k? Zoinks. Deal killer.
$1k? OK, do-able.
f35 version of a ProLock? Alright- now you're cooking with gas.

Jacek from Optitek is going to give a quote at the cost once he looks at a f35 to see what will need to be done. He is talking about with a simple nikon mount costing around $800 to do it if we can get around 4 people to all agree to it. This price may be higher if he looks at it and sees that it's a harder job than he thought.

The first challenge is the availability of the 1406 part - the front piece of the F35 - the Sony Rep quoted me at 2-3 weeks to get it from Japan. Then there is the issue of scarcity. Who knows how many pieces there are.

The Sony Rep gave a quote of around $800 for the plate. Otto doesn't have one anymore.

So there is that cost.

So anyway, who is interested?

Could be used the excisting part..and PL-mount modified, so it could be switched with Nikon one?

I'd be interested in the prolock solution. I guess the only option is nikon, and not canon?
I have a front plate for the camera already, so I won't have to order one.

I'm serious now about getting a group thing going for the F35 mount. Verismo - I think you have a great idea but Jacek at Optitek has already an extensive and proven track record - I think we should use him for our services. Who else wants to do this modification? I ordered a spare front plate for the F35. Let me know - email me at ed(at)kittyguerrilla.com and we can go from there.

I sent my extra front part into Jacek at Optitek last week, Ed and I make two, who else?

Oh and if anyone is looking for an extra f35 front, I bought an Old f35 front through Joel at Otto Nemez, might want to contact them. Im eagerly awaiting news from Jacek on what he thinks about the conversion when he gets the part in.

I wonder if it would it be possible to have the plate modified to the FZ mount of the F3/F5(5)? That would be the ideal setup IMO, you could then quickly and simply switch between whatever it is you need: PL, Nikon, EF, even a Panavision mount.

I'm getting my F35 back from Sony in a couple of weeks and will then be ready to send my extra front plate off for modification. Hope that's not too late...

I haven't gotten my front part in yet - so go for it - send it in to Jacek if he thinks he can do it.

That would be great Grug- but there just sent the room in the f35 because you have that sealed sensor compartment. Canon EF is probably the deepest you could cut into the front part but that's just on my ruff measurements.
