This sale is for the Sony F35 cinema camera and accessories. The F35 is one special camera. Its legacy is a co-development between Sony and Panavision (its sister camera is the Genesis), and it sports a CCD sensor and global shutter that produces actual 12-bit 444 information in 1080p up to 50fps. This camera was over $200,000 new, and is still the most film-like digital image (along with the Alexa). You’ve seen it as the A cam in movies like Tron: Legacy and TV shows like Justified. It’s kind of amazing.

It’s built like a tank, and kind of looks like one, too. The F35 got a reputation for being a beast to lug around, but with today’s external monitor/recorders, this just isn’t true. I often used the F35 without the IF box and viewfinder, which reduces the form factor to something akin to a square volleyball. In this configuration, it is smaller and weighs less than a Red One. Very manageable.

This particular F35 is the 36[SUP]th[/SUP] model created for the US market. I purchased it from a rental house, so it has seen some use and has the usual marks and paint chips on the body. I have used it a few dozen times for documentary and studio shoots, and it has never failed to impress me with how point and shoot it really is to use. You’ll see that it has 2415 hours on it: those are “on” hours but not “run” hours, because I’ve always used an external recorder and have never hit record on the camera. It’s ready to be a killer camera for you for the next 20 years.

Functionally and operationally, it’s as solid and dependable as cameras come. The sensor is perfect with no frozen/dead pixels. All levers, switches, and buttons work as they should. There is one cosmetic issue that I want to mention—the rear accessory attachment carriage is missing two pegs. You wouldn’t notice it unless you look at the top carriage to see the difference. This has no functional impact—everything still locks into place and works as it should—but I want you to know everything about what you’re getting. I never felt the need to replace it, but if you wanted to down the line, Sony does sell replacement parts.

This package comes with everything you need to get shooting with the F35, except the external recorder. I recommend the Odyssey 7Q+ or similar, and actually, this is the actual F35 camera that Convergent Design used to develop its Prores 444 support for the all the Sony F35s.

The package comes with:
Sony F35 cinema camera w/ PL mount
IF box
Assistant panel
Riser plate w/ both hex wrenches included
Sony C30W viewfinder (recently calibrated by Sony)
Right angle viewfinder attachment (rare!)
Hawkwoods V-mount battery attachment (allows you to power the camera through AC port)
V-mount battery
Otto Nemenz F35 cheeseplate
2 handles
Custom case w/ foam inserts for camera and accessories
All necessary cabling for the above

The Sony F35 package with all you see here is $6000+shipping. I have a perfect 100% feedback rating on eBay, with almost 400 transactions. Please feel free to PM me with questions.

I’m also selling my set of Zeiss Standard Speeds that I’ve used with the F35 – they’re an excellent, organic match and also help to keep the weight down for handheld operation. It’s crazy to think that the F35 could be a run-and-gun camera but it’s how I’ve used it multiple times. OK: crazy deal until the end of 2015: $5000 takes the package! That's less than half of what I paid for it. PM me to get the conversation going. Once January hits, it'll be back to the regular price.
