Sony F3 RIG Setup questions / answers

Hey All,

My first post here... woot.

I am soon to be an F3 owner and have found very little detailed info on rigging solutions, which is surprising for such a popular camera. Anyway, I thought I would share my (extensive) research and also ask a quick question at the end.

THE RIG:
Element Technica EL-SF3A Riser with magnetic shoulder pad
15mm rods - your choice (14" front / 8" rear)
Element Technica Lightweight Rod Bracket (mounts 8" rods to rear)
Shape Quick Handle + Rod Block
Zacuto Zwiss Plate for mounting Anton Bauer plate and Ki Pro Mini
Zacuto Z-Finder EVF + EVF Rod Mount
Arri MFF1 Follow Focus + Red Rock whip
Red Rock Micro Matte Box (with glass ND filters)
Cartoni F133 Focus HD Tripod System

THE QUESTION:
How does that system connect to the Cartoni tripod? I know the ET SF3 riser has the ability to connect somehow, but does that require an additional piece of equipment I am missing? This is where I am least knowledgable - how tripod systems connect to camera rigs.

Anyway, I hope that this post has helped a few people out who are looking for a really solid set-up for the F3 without having to settle for the way over-priced and under-performing Zacuto EVF Kit or another pre-made kit that is missing important elements. If you have anything to add, feel free to comment!

Basically, at the bottom of the ET plate there is two 3/8 holes that will fit a Sachtler tripod plate. The Cartoni looks like the same plate. If it is the longer one need just make sure the plate will have adjustable 3/8 screws not a 1/4 screw track one on end and a 3/8 screw track on the other end. You need two 3/8's.

This is a for sure fit. (and this is all you need to go between ET plate and Tripod head.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/78924-REG/Sachtler_1064_Camera_Plate_16_Touch.html
Same set Ryman..Love it!

Unless the Focus head has been greatly improved in the last 6 years or so, or there is more than one version of the head, I would be very careful putting that much weight on it. I found even an HVX200 was hard to keep stable .
Don't think mine was called an "HD" though so hopefully they beefed it up.
Love my little Cartoni legs though.

I have a sachtler video 18p tripod, and my plate wasn't long enough to enable me to put 2 of the screws in on the bottom of the ET riser.

So I purchased the element technica hybrid core bridge plate, and a dovetail, and that combo is deadly!

Very happy with this combo!

Hey Ryman, I have the Pather X15 head and uses the same plate as 18. All you need to do is drill a hole just a little further up (just extending the hole track) Had to extend mine a bit and works fine. Just use a drill press not a screw gun.

Could have save you some "deadly dollars"

Actually, when I attached just the sachtler plate to the ET riser, it wouldn't balance properly. There just wasn't enough adjustment to get it right.. So thats why I went with the dovetail. It feels so solid with it.

and I'm in this deep, whats another $1000 dollars LOL j/k

Got ya. I'm sure I'll end up doing the the same, jumping from 15mm to 19mm....etc.

Hi, thank you for your response. I have decided to go with the Sachtler 1006 DV 10 SB head instead. Much better than the Focus HD, so no worries about build quality and stability.
