pretty much the first thought I had when I saw the title. hahaI know James has probably been wondering, "Where the heck is Run? We're talking about VariCams".
Run, would you say the Sony F3 1080p(external HD-SDI out to recorder) image quality would be an upgrade to the 720p of HDC27H(external HD-SDI out to recorder)? Conflicted if I should pick up an F3 in addition to my HDC27H...but only if the image quality will be significant going from external 720p CCD to external 1080p CMOS.
Thank you guys for all of your feedback. Run can I ask why you think the 2700 sold better than the 3700? The difference between 1080p and 720 is pretty significant.
James, that footage from the 2700 is fantastic. Skin tones are really something. 3700 is definitely at the top of my list. Very excited to move forward once the world and Hollywood comes back to life.

So true. Also this one was HDX or Vari. Think they used some DoF adapters, so was cool for the time, when docs shot on video didn't look like this. I suppose we still don't do a lot of tilt shift. They talked about fast turn around, I wonder if the deadlines were tight by today's standards? mostly shot by a tiny crew though. If you ever needed reassurances that the original Vari was a capable camera, remember that a lot of the original Planet Earth was shot on it.
It's hard to believe that the original original VariCam was introduced in 2001 and the 2700/3700 in 2008(!). And I was at the 2014 NAB where the V35 dropped. Where does the time go..?
Mike seems to be one of the few people here that has used all these cameras in the last 4years.
Mike's F23 setup was the heaviest looking thing I have ever seen in digital.

Is your 2700 footage graded? Or is that the SOOC look?
In order to do the RGB 444 output on the hpx3700 do you have to have dual link Odyssey or is it single 3G and can use a pix-e5?
I graded it in dav. shot film rec at 600%
Looks great! Only reason i didn’t share your workninstead, was i was trying to show the straight from camera look. But i really like what you did. You have a good mood. Saw some other posts of yours and really like the tone.
