Sony EX3 or Scarlet

Thanks guys for the advice!

What do you all think about the Red Rock Micro Encore 35mm adapter? Is it worth it? What about Letus or Cinemeks g35? Which do you think has a better bundle package? After viewing the footage from the Letus and Cinemeks adapters it appears that Cinemek has too soft of an image. It might be cheaper, lighter and more consolidated but does that make for a good adapter?

I am curious to what you guys think?

Thanks,
Adam

I'm a very big believer of the Scarlet, but I would say that if you are to wait for something right now, consider Canon. Seeing how they faced RED head on on their new "Poster" for the Firmware upgrade for the 5D Mark II, (an Epic Starts with an M), I would say that's a big statement of intent from Canon to go ahead and chalenge RED in their game. If past experience proves me right, I would say that in the coming months we'll see the announcement of the RUmoured XL-H1 replacement- and seeing the overwhelming response of the 5d Mark II acceptance by pro's, I would believe this new camera would be built around this winning formula (sensor-interchangeable lenses, at leastt!)

We'll probably see this Canon camera sooner than the Scarlet...

For a few reasons, I hope that Canon does release an APS sensor size video camera before Scarlet ships. One, it will give people an excellent option to the Scarlet(s) most likely, and two, it would relieve some of the long waiting periods for the Scarlet because many people would have already broke the piggy bank on a camera.

Let me preface by saying the closest I've come to really exploring the prosumer market is renting and testing an EX3. I shot with an f900 a few years ago and I was pretty amazed at how similar the image of an EX3 was considering the price. We all know tech is contimually advancing but it's really pretty stunning to witness it in such black and white terms.

All that being said, I didn't get a chance to test the Red Rock but I did try a Letus Extreme and a Letus Ultimate. For a small screen, the Extreme is more than enough and it really produces some beautiful images, but if you're projecting anything bigger (or maybe even going to a good HD TV I don't know) I'd reccomend the Ultimate. The spinning glass removes that grain you sometimes pick up with the Extreme, or any non spinning 35mm adapter.

Again, take this all with a grain of salt because I'm mostly a film guy and there are people on this sight who have more experience with XD cams and 35mm adapters than me. But I did get a chance to test it forst hand and that's my feeling on it.

well if you just want a temp Sony cam until the scarlet comes out, I would check out the HDR-FX1000. I just got one and this thing is sharp. Camcorder info wasn't kidding when they said it could resolve 900 plus lines of resolution. I did a quick test last night on a chart and I was seeing lines on screen i've never seen before, and this was with a 35mm adapter attached.
It's also relatively cheap compared to the ex3. downside is that it's hdv, but there's an external solid state card device that sony makes that will allow you to bypass tape if you want..
