Sony EX1R Zoom ring handle removal

Hi Guys

I have recently made the upgrade from the Sony EX1 to the Sony EX1R as my old one was getting super worn out and I didn't want to change manufacturer as I had committed to all of the lenses, cards, spare batteries etc.

One question for any of you that might know. On my old EX1, the little handle around the zoom ring was quite easy to unscrew and I found this a nice feature as it sometimes gets int he way when shooting handheld. On my new EX1R, I have found this handle is really tight and I'm afraid if I try and unscrew it with too much force i will break something.

Can anyone tell me if this piece is still removable on the updated EX1R?

Thanks

Yeah, it's removable. And yup, you're right, it's threaded pretty darn tight from factory! But it's removable.

It is removable. It was really tight on the last EX1R I used (belonging to Chris Santucci), but it got in the way of the focus motor we were using, so it had to go. Took quite a bit of force to remove it. Not saying that I'd be any less worried than you, but this might be a common issue.

Thanks for the reply guys.

I just attacked it with a pliers and it came undone very easily. I just needed that extra bit of leverage that I couldn't get with my fingers alone.

For anyone else with this issue, simply put a piece of cloth over the handle then grip and twist with the fliers and hey presto, off it comes.
