Sony DSLRs / Cybershots without 29 minute limit?

Can someone list the cheapest Sony DSLR or Cybershot (p&s) that do not have the silly 29 minute limit. Event videographer here and I need to recored hours at a time - long winded speeches and wedding ceremonies. I was looking at the HX9 but it seems to have the recording limit.

FAQ - there aren't any, they all have the 29min or 4gig limit. The answer is taxes - any digital camera that can record more than 30min's will be classified as a video camera and incur a 30% tax penalty.

Panasonic works around it by having separate models for EU and non-EU.

I thought the gh2 had no limit....

That is correct outside of the EU. My North American Panasonic GH2 has no record time limit.

For thabo, if you want a Sony still/video camera without the 29 minute limit, and don't mind the camcorder form-factor, the only choice is the NEX-VG20 ($1599 body only at Amazon).

The only DSLR form-factor camera in production without a recording time limit is the Panasonic GH2 ($900 body only at Amazon).

That's why I own GHs and am looking at the VG20. You don't have to be an event videographer to need something more than a 12 minute or 29 minute still/video hybrid camera that shuts down in the middle of school plays, speeches and sermons.

Cheers and good luck,

Bill

Bill, this is not quite correct, there is more than one model video camera that Sony make, only they are not cheap at all. The Sony NEX-FS100 also uses the E-mount lenses of the VG20 but costs a few thousand more!

If the OP is asking for the _cheapest_ Sony DSLR or Cybershot, what's the point of mentioning the NEX-FS100?

...and I could be wrong, but I inferred from the original question about DSLRs and Cybershots that he wanted still capability too -- which the FS100 does not have.

So I stand by my original suggestion -- if you want a hybrid still/video camera from Sony without the 29 minute limit, the only option is the VG20.

Cheers,

Bill
