Hi,

Trying to get a replacement rear panel for my EX1 as the lettering is almost gone. Thought I'd try Sony spare parts as ADVISED by one of their staff (Peter Longstaff) but you can only email them.

Pretty useless reply back from them stating I have to buy this panel thru a Broadcast and Professional Service Centre in Australia yet the Sony site doesn't appear to provide this infomation for specific B&P products, only consumer items.
Can somebody please help advise who are the services centres in Oz?

Regards

I'd make an attempt at getting it for free. Most of us who had early version of the EX1 suffered from this paint erosion. It only took about a month for my letters to start wearing away and they replaced it for free when I returned the camera for some other work.

Not sure how Dave, the camera must be over 2 years old by now. I did find a service centre in Perth by the way.

As far as most users were concerned, it was a defective part and deserved to be replaced. However, given the two years of use, I guess they'd tell you to forget it. However, when I started seeing this happening after a month, I was hopping mad.

I only got the camera a week ago but it is a 2009 model. Might cost me either $105 to replace it myself or $380 for them to do it and it's not just a matter of unscrewing those 4 screws either...seems to be more complex than that, i.e a matter of removing the handle and side panels just to remove that back panel. What a pain.

Good luck with that. Actually, you are right about the panel. It looks like it would only be 4 screws and you're done. I never took it off, but when I sent mine in for replacement, Sony service screwed my camera up BIG time. When the replaced the rear plate, they misaligned it and managed to jam a couple of the tiny audio switches by misaligning the plate. So, I lost the ability to change my mic settings. I had to send it back.....again. I'm actually on my third lens with this EX1, but I still love the camera!

Naughty naughty. I was feeling a bit hesitant about sending it in in case they did f**k it up. I'm getting to slowly know this camera, and so far I am impressed.

Thanks everyone for your input and contributions.
