FS5: Sony AXS-R5 worth buying?

I have an opportunity to get a used, only 4 hours usage, set of Sony Raw recorder:
HXR-IFR5 + AXS-R5 + one 512Go AXS memory card + USB card reader AXS-CR1
For $2500 US
To use with a FS5 & FS7.
I understood the Raw out of the R5 is easy to tune in Resolve.
Of course it's bulky compare to an Atomos or an Odyssey.

Have you experience to work with it?

I know you can use it via an adapter with the FS7 (don't know about the FS5), but the more pertinent point is that you would NEVER want to. It would be an ergonomic nightmare.

The R5 is a brilliant piece of kit paired natively with the F5 or F55. But without a clean attachment like it has with those cameras, it would be horrible. Much better to go the O7Q route and simply have an onboard monitor that also happens to record raw from the camera.

It works for both FS7 and FS5 per Sony website and dealer. Just connect it through the 3G-SDI output.
I should have asked if the mxf file out of the R5 is easier or better to work with than the CDNG out of the O7Q.

You couldn't pay me $2,500 to deal with that mess. ONLY in a controlled locked down studio environment (where you would need it the least) would I ever even consider it. Five years ago when I had a F3, I mounted a KiProMini on rails behind the camera for a doc I was filming in Haiti. Between the bigger/longer F3 battery sticking out the back, then the KiPro recorder, then a battery plate with a dedicated batt for the KiPro, it was almost double the length and weight of the camera. That set up lasted about two days before I accepted ProResHQ over XDCAM-EX was just not worth it. The set up was literally making me miss shots. I think you'll find the same is true for RAW on a FS5. At least in that configuration.
