Sony Australia/NZ bundling SLOG with new F3s for free

Yes, and by the time you take off our tax-deductable GST (VAT) it's way cheaper. I'll be just happy to have S-log to go with my Samurai.

Those frame grabs & stills look fantastic! Really wonderful.

May I ask you which lenses did you used? Looks like nikon-mount zoom lenses...

Congrats for such beautiful images. Wish yo the best!

Thank you for your feedback.
We used the Sony kit lenses, 35, 50 and 85mm with the addition of Nikon zooms 17-35mm f2.8 and Nikon 80-200mm f2.8.
I could not see any difference in contrast or tonal values between them and they cut perfectly even in the same scene. The only issue with the Nikon lenses was the fact that they have a much larger image circle. The shots with bright areas outside the frame have a great chance to add flares and possible 'fogging' around the edges. I was very careful to use cutters, lots of flags to have any possible flares controlled. The MTF adapter has a baffle, just the size of the sensor, but internal reflections are still present.
The 17-35 is just stunning, have used with RED as well and could not fault it even wide open in the the presence of some primes.
We hardly shot anything wider than 28mm.

Used it on a feature film with PIX240/10 bit and can say that no digital cinema camera should be sold without such an option.
Is there any sweetener for those who paid nearly 5K for the s-log in October last year?

Wow, film sounds very interesting and screengrabs look terrific!

I just wish I was in the position to take advantage of this offer at the moment - SLOGged F3 offers a level of image quality at which you could shoot pictures for any level of production without any concerns or hesitations about image quality (it looks absolutely gorgeous even projected on full-sized cinema screens). Alas, I'll be going with a lesser camera and putting the rest of the money towards lights, sticks, a jib, slider etc. (oh well, got to start somewhere I suppose)

Thank you Grug.
I don't know which lesser camera you have i mind but it will not get you anywhere near it. We were speechless seeing what comes out of it in that combo. Low light performance, low noise and high dynamic range is incredible and priceless.
For our film we used natural light, kerosene lamps, candles, reflectors, white bed sheets and locally hand made cutters and difusers. Only for a couple of scenes I 'cheated' helping with some pocket (3) battery operated LED lights.

I don't know that using candles and kerosene - the carbon footprint of our production was acceptable or not... ;)

It's looking like I'll opt for a D800 or FS100 with a ProRes recorder at this stage. It's quite a big move moving away from renting gear for the first time - but it's really pretty remarkable the Image Quality and lighting/support gear you can get for your money these days.

I'm annoyed. I bought the software last year, although it was reduced in price $400 from CVP in the UK, however there's no way I can dish out $10,000 for the zoom lens, even if there is a discount. The only reason Sony has done this is because the Canon C300 (50mbps & 4:2:2) is a threat to the F3. This is also an opportunity to sell more of the F3 before they release the F5 either this year or next. I wonder how you build a client base with smoke and mirrors.

Peter,
I think you answered your own question. You build a client base with smoke and mirrors.
Red was considered by many of discussion board militia, nothing but vapourware. They brought a camera that changed everything and made the sleeping giants take notice. Unfortunately the RED still lacks a mirror and has more fanboys than clients. Weirdos like Arri and Sony think it is a good idea and their high end thinghies got mirrors.
;)

Arri, Sony, Canon has more clients than fanboys. If there is a problem, they listen and do really help you. On our production mentioned in my previous post, our camera showed during some tests, a fault on the sensor. I was able to contact within minutes Sony Australia and have the camera replaced with a brand new one in a sealed box, no questions asked in three days and that being isolated in another country, over a weekend, in East Timor. I wonder if the same would have been the case with other manufacturer, on the other side of the pond, as I was not shooting with Soderberg or Peter Jackson.
This is how you build a client base and the producer is seriously looking to purchase a F65 (maybe 2) for their next project.
