Sony announces ProRes and DNxHD for F5/F55 - WOW

Just imagine, not very long ago, people equated Sony with, "how to get it wrong". I don't know if people remember this, but it was a blanket attitude. That is indeed changing and I think it is because they are really listening. Good stuff.

They HAD to come around if they wanted to survive. The days of proprietary tape formats are gone and inexpensive off-board recorders are everywhere. Yes, they still have their proprietary media, but you're not locked into just a Sony "format". I for one would MUCH rather shoot with a camera that was all "self contained" than have to worry about adding another piece of hardware that has to be fed a signal and power with extra cables and worry about whether or not it's recording. Every time Sony does something to these cameras now, they get better and gain value. I wish in my area they were in more demand instead of the C300. Buying the 300 was a 'no-brainer', but I would have rather invested in an F55.

Sounds like ProRes will be HD/2K max resolution and couldn't catch the color sampling but Sony did say not all ProRes flavours will be available. Sounded like he said "422" at some point but he was very hard to understand..

For 4K Sony is sticking to its XAVC codec.
