Sony announces FX9 4K camcorder with 6K fullframe sensor

I always hate when my stupid rolling shutter is shooting shots of statues, when my camera with a measly 10 stops of dynamic range is capturing a 4 stop shot, when my 1080p camera that cannot do 8K is shooting for Standard Definition TV, and my ISO is limited to going only as high as 3200 for shooting shots of the sun.

It’s a hard life.

The irony that you are trying to purchase an LF. Haha.

I care so much about global shutter that I bought a Sony F55, said no high end feature film DP ever.

LF has rolling shutter. I wonder if it has more skew if the readout speed is the same as the Super35 Arris, of if they increased the readout speed. I would think the latter otherwise rolling shutter on the 65 may be noticeable if I’m correct in understanding larger Sensor means more distance to read.

Oh, Eric, they announced the Canon Ivy. Might be a good option.
Photo printers are lame. I’m waiting for video printers like they use for the newspapers in Harry Potter.

No one is debating the beauty of compromise. That doesn’t mean everyone loves rolling shutter artifacts.

Also, the “irony” i was mentioning, was because you were making fun of people that complain about limitations, and you are considering buying one of the best and most expensive cameras.

I was making fun of people who complain about camera limitations that may not actually affect them. Rolling shutter is low on my list of priorities (hence why the global shutter of the F55 is not enough to make the camera appealing), and is low on others' lists as well, considering those cameras that offered a global shutter sensor at the cost of lower dynamic range never sold as well as the higher dynamic range sensors. The Alexa LF has a lot of features that are useful on a day to day basis, even though it has rolling shutter which will be negatively noticeable in a pretty small percentage of shots.

Back in the DSLR days of 2012 say rolling shutter was more noticeable on say the 5D Mark II, and the solution, gee, shoot stable footage that doesn't bob around like a drunk person. 99% of that problem, solved.

Unfortunately Michael J. Fox continued to insist on global shutter cameras.

And now for an I believe rolling shutter camera example of filming bullets...

Hey all, I've tried searching but couldn't find any info.

I currently have the Odyssey 7Q (for my fs700 and fs5)... I'm wondering if there's been any news from convergent design on what they would be able to get out of the fx9 on the 7q. I know the fx9 has awesome built-in recording capabilities but since the viewfinder still sucks, I'd probably be attaching the 7Q and if i'm doing that, may as well be shooting in a higher format/bit-rate etc. I also find it odd how the fx9 only goes up to 180fps even though my 8 year old fs700 can do continuous 240fps in 2k raw.

Look I don't know other than it's gone very quiet on the Convergent Design front. From what I've heard but don't quote me gospel on this is that CD's development on video products has about come to a stop and that CD is developing into other areas of technical endeavour. I think competition on price from the likes of Blackmagic with their Video Assist range and Atomos with their new 4K recorder monitors at much lower prices have taken their toll on CD's sales. I may wrong but that's the sort of drum I'm hearing. Maybe Dan or someone from CD could comment of their current and future plans.

2K and 6K are different beasts, and dedicated camera tech doesn’t have the same development speed that cellphone money does.

^imagine just on a technical level, the difference in read out speed and processing to handle a 4, 5, 6, or 8K sensor. 6K isn’t three times, but rather 9times the size of HD. How many other things have gotten 9times faster in an 8year period? Cars? However, maybe they should just start making a box with a sensor and a cable that plugs into a cell phone and stay up do date? ;)

There is another theory floating around these threads. Have another beer/tea and stick around.
