Sony A7SIII = $3500, 10-bit 4K120p internal, 16-bit 4K60p RAW out

Yes it can using Clear Image Zoom. Because it uses a Sony's proprietary AI Pixel Super Resolution Technology as they call it. It's not actually a crop as such. It uses AI and a database in the camera. I've used it on the A7III and other cameras. It works very well on the Z90 and the Z280. Explanation on how Clear Image works below.

Also if you haven't already double check the video I first linked to. It's available in 4K and for all intents and purposes on a 75" 4k monitor it looked very good. Would just like someone else's take on it.

You cannot use face/eye AF in clear image zoom. You cannot use any sort of focus mode besides what looks like Wide (or maybe it's multi?). No spot, center fix, etc. But you can zoom up to 1.5x

And the quality? Pretty please? The AF is no real issue for me as any primes I use are purely manual focus.

I've found it useful basically gives you two lenses in one. If you use a wide prime on a gimbal, punch in without changing lenses and re balancing. You can use it to give the 24-70mm or 24-105mm enough extra reach if you don't want to switch to 70-200mm . Being able to run and gun with one lens is nice, you'll miss less moments and eliminate the risk getting dust on the sensor. Although what Abe said it true. I call it the Sony * effect, that feature will not always not be available under different circumstances and a custom button will need to be assigned... If you haven't committed the Sony manual to memory you might not realize why it won't allow you to use clear image or that it's disabled an equally important feature.

Does anyone know if you can do Extended Clear Scan or something equivalent on sony A7S3 or other A series cameras? It's called Synchro Scan on Panasonic. You know - to fine-tune the shutter speed in order to avoid LED banding

Now a days the most likely reason your indoor event video will be ruined/marred that you can do nothing to fix is rolling dark bars caused by inexpensive led lights at the venue. It would be nice if camera manufactures would do something about it.

another reason to appreciate the GH5 - synchro scan kicks it right in the ass.

yesterday i was shooting at christie's auction house, and SOME of their exhibition rooms had LED banding while most did not. You'd think that they would be smart enough to hang good LEDs considering how much shooting they do there...

Hey Chris Young - do you have any knowledge of alternative LANC controller compatibility with the sony a7 line? I'm eyeing a Varizoom VZROCK or VZRL100 to grip onto the left handle of my Ronin-S rig.

My a7 multiport to LANC adapter cable came in, but I have yet to test it with my FS7 handle.

Also, apparently there is a more common route to connect LANC to a7 cameras using 2 adapters - multiport to sony AVR and then AVR to LANC. I wonder which system works best, that or the cable I have. Using 2 adapters is worse than 1, although both those adapters combined cost half of the one that I bought, which would be nice.

BTW I used Clear Image Zoom recently to increase my macro magnification on a fast-moving b-roll shoot. It worked well. I will post stills when I get a chance. But it was an HD shoot, not 4K, so perhaps not as informative for you as you'd like.

Am I missing something but how is it possible that the roundabout from Premiere -> Resolve or FCPX -> Resolve is not working on the A7s III cameras?

All of those programs seem to see a different timecode. A bit of googling and this problem has been existing at least from the first A7s camera. What the hell?

S-Cinetone on the FX9 looked wonderful when I shot some projects with it last year.
First time I could shoot people and not gag on the Sony colors,
no Cyan/Magenta cadaver looks! This is a big boost to the A7 SIII.

Just installed and did a quick test -- looking good. Does anyone have any exposure tips for S-Cinetone?

It's a SOOC gamma so the same exposure parameters as REC709, protect your highlights. If you want to push and get creative with grades, don't use S-Cinetone. It's designed
for handing off footage to clients and not having the horrible Sony skin tones. if you want to push it, shoot SLog 3 Cine Gamma and go sick.

Thanks, Dan.

Has anyone tried putting a pro mist on their a7siii? Tamron 28-75. I usually shoot clean or with an nd but I would like to soften up the image a touch...

Haven't tried it on the a7SIII but these type of filters have been pretty much the standard for the last 10 years on DSLRs/mirrorless' video unless more of a clinical look is preferred.

My personal favorite is the 1/8 Schneider Hollywood Black Magic.

Is the effect strong enough with the 1/8?
