GH4 Sony A7S will be $2500 body only

I've been holding off committing to GH4 until I saw the price of A7S. If the body only $2500 is correct, I think that kills it for me. Love the idea of really good low light, but I'm loving what I see of GH4 4K delivered as 1080p. Tacking on a $2000 Shogun to the A7S to get 4K plus lenses etc, may be just too much. Unless of course the 1080p is super detailed.
I'll still follow the reviews and admire it for what it is, but will probably start planning a GH4 shopping list now.

I have the GH4. I have ordered the A7s. My guess is I will really like the A7s and sell the GH4 once I have the Sony. The GH4 IMO does not compare well to my SONY FS700/Odyssey 7Q combination, but I have to give the GH4 more of a workout until I am sure of that assessment.

I want to wait and see. For now, i feel more attracted by the Sony. Later this year, there would be also other camera coming out, more pro oriented and im expected Canon to release his new EOC Cxx camera serie.. Well at least i hope so.. Anyway, i was more impressed by the pictures coming out the Sony for now, and in a way i though it cou;d be better for someone like me who like to travel and shot light but still with great image quality. Color on the Sony pleased me. Nothing on the gh4 so far did on this point. Looks like you have to massage the picture to get a decent result. Now yes, no doubt it could capture a sharp 4k image..

Well...GH4 wins the 4K battle for sure, because the Sony can not do 4K internal...:) However if 1080p from A7s is as good as the 4K downscaled from GH4 and it will likely be in my opinion, for many users A7s will be a better option especially if we consider the remarkable low light ability and the possible better DR. Anyway we ll have to see some more footage...

DR is what makes the picture stand out as superior IMHO, not loads of ressolution. We are getting ours GH4 on monday, but I suspect that we will be selling it after the summer... either for a used F3 or A7s. Can''t beat that lovely Slog image:)

I want a full frame camera for stills since I don't have a modern one. I still have the original 5D and it's still good but long in the tooth. I'm running out of money! 15.3 DR rating. Very tempting Sony very tempting.

I thought the 8 bit hdmi output would be a dealbreaker, but having looked at the FS700 8bit vs. 10bit to external recorder comparisons, the difference is almost impossible to see. Shooting S-log on this A7S could even further negate the 10 bit....at least it's 4:2:2 8bit.
I like the idea of a true hybrid, and the stills from the GH4 just really don't do it for me. On the other hand the rolling shutter looked bad, but that was pre-production camera so who knows.
I think I'll be holding off until some solid reviews show up.
Some other cons however are:
- Can't find anything saying it does focus peaking?
- Max 60fps in 1080p....that 96fps in GH4 is nice.
- Max rez. is UHD, can't find anything saying it does Cinema 4K rez.

Your results aren't a surprise at all. Most people don't realize how efficient AVCHD really is. You need to snag a RAW output or similar to start seeing major differences. A good 8 422 is still pretty useful, if you're shooting for results in camera.

The real problem (IMO) is the price of the main body. 2500 is about 500 too much for that body, to me anyway. If it were between a GH4 and A7S, so far A7S seems to take it where IQ is concerned.

It's a little pricy but with the Metabones Canon EF Lens to Sony NEX Smart Adapter that opens up a a lot of great Canon lenses with full electronic control. Very tempting. If it did 4K internally that would justify the added cost.

Geez! I cant believe i'm actually saying a hybrid camera that doesn't shoot 4K could be a deal breaker. We are living in some incredible times right now my friends!

Glass isn't the issue, really. There are enough adapters. Not having internal 4K recording is definitely a showstopper at that price. I guess it's 2014K =P

There's also very little footage floating around. Although the original stuff released was pretty convincing, more footage would be great.

I think that 96fps is upres'd 720p. In other words, +1 for A7S...anyone else agree?

Yes, the GH4's 96fps is a little lower res but it still looks good, IMO. Someone on PV mentioned that if you shoot in 1080/60 and use AE's time stretch 400%, you achieve the same result but more resolution. I tried it and the motion isn't quite as smooth but it does work. I also tried Premiere's Speed/Duration at 25% and it wasn't as good as AE's time stretch.

A7s can do 120fps at 720p in aps-c mode. What if the image from that is better than 96fps from GH4? Even uprezed to 1080p...is that possible?
