Sony a7s mp4s not showing up

Hey guys,

So I'm shooting with my a7s, all is great. Except for some clients (Macy's in this case) after transferring the footage to them, they claim that there are no mp4s in the root folder. I sent them a video of my iphone, shot off my MacBook, that you go into the Private >> MP4 >> Clips. But they are saying they don't see any folder inside of Private. They only see a 25GB file, I'm assuming it's the AVCHD clip.

Clearly it's a driver/software issue. Has anyone ran into a similar problem? What drivers, codecs should they be installing to properly see the folder structure? Planning to head to their office tomorrow afternoon, would like to come with a solution. Rather than just showing them that 'on my laptop everything works fine'.

Thanks guys.

Did you shoot in AVCHD or XAVCS?

What software are they trying to look for the files using? I know that with DaVinci Resolve, it will show a blank directory if the codec is unsupported (as is the case with XAVCS.) I just edited a music video using Premiere Pro CS6 on Windows 7 and had no issues.

I shot in XAVCS. The folder directory is not seen in the 'Finder' window, not even opening up any software. I open the folder on my Macbook, I see the correct folder structure. Open up the same SD card on their computer, some of the folders are not seen (Private)....

If you're recording to XAVC-S, the files are under PRIVATE > M4ROOT > CLIP. But if you can't see private folder... I dunno...

Hmm, yep that's strange indeed. It could be that the Finder is hiding the directory for some reason. Do you know how to browse directories in the command line? That will show you what's truly there. By default the Finder hides a lot of "system" files that somewhat clutter up the user experience. It could be that their computer has some issues and the Finder is hiding files and folders that it shouldn't be.

What OSX version are they using?
OSX used to consider the PRIVATE folder as a "special case" and expect something precise in it... which used to be "nothing but an AVCHD folder". Now that there's more stuff due to XAVCS it might be thrown off and not recognise it anymore.
That has been changed and now at least in current 10.10.3 Yosemite only the AVCHD folder has that special handling, the PRIVATE folder and its other contents show up as normal.
They maybe just need to update their OSX version.
